Bree sighed as she pushed through the bar door, the smell of alcohol and cigarets hitting her nose instantly. She shook it off, glancing from side to side as she held her phone tightly in her hands. He had said to meet him here. He had said they had some catching up to do. Especially since they were both in town at the same time. That almost never happened anymore. Not since the two had left Mission Creek initially.
She nodded to himself as she spotted him, alone at the bar. He was playing with the drink in front of himself and the pretzels at the side. He looked out of place, yet, at the same time, he fit right in. Only he could ever do that. He could both blend and stand out of a crowd. He turned as the clicks of her heels caught his attention, the girl in a tight, dark red dress taking a seat next to one of her best friends from long ago. Things were different now, however. So much had changed.
"Hey." He greeted sweetly, the right edge of his mouth curving at the sight of her. It had been far too long. She nodded to him as she set her phone and purse down on the bar, calling the the bartender for a glass of wine.
"What's this about, Chase?" Bree sighed as she settled into the barstool. She held her hands in her lap, watching Chase closely. Yes, the two may have been close, maybe even best friends, back at the bionic academy, but things had changed. The two had lost touch since they had left for college. The Bree and Chase even opted for a life without bionics after leaving the academy. Adam and Leo were now the only mentors, taking the highest ranking students on missions when needed. Chase and Bree had found it unnecessary to stay behind and limit their lives to being bionic. College had allowed them so many experienced they never would have had, otherwise. Though, it had torn them apart.
Chase shook his head, taking a sip of his beer as the bartender slid the glass of wine to the previously bionic star. "I just wanted to catch up." He shook his head once more, setting his drink down as he spun around in his chair to face her.
"Okay, how was your day?" She tried, sending a snide smile to Chase. She wasn't in the mood for small talk.
"Fine, absolutely fine. How about your day? Was it good?" Chase snapped back. Bree nodded, allowing her elbow to rest on the bar as she faced him fully. Something still wasn't right. Chase never acted this way.
"Isn't it your five month anniversary with Lucy?" Bree asked skeptically, her left eyebrow raising in suspicion as she mentioned Chase's girlfriend. "I thought you were both in town since you got her new wheels for her car-"
"We broke up." Chase cut her off, holding up his hand to stop her. Bree had always been one to press and pry, trying to get the hidden answers out of him when he needed it least. Chase had been hoping that the alcohol would dull that particular personality trait for the night. Give him a small reprieve. But he had been the one to ask her here. He needed to talk. "She was cheating on me with some guy from her dorm. We broke up like two hours ago. I just needed someone that I trusted to be here with me." Bree nodded, feeling her chest begin to heave with his words.
"That makes two of us, then." She laughed lightly, trying to bring a bit of light back to their conversation. "James is getting some huge promotion in Britain. He didn't want to do the whole long distance thing." She spoke almost quietly, her finger trailing around the top of the wine glass she had yet to take a drink from.
