AN‼️: the beginning of this chapter takes place a little bit before the coffee shop scene from the last chapter!

Adam Pierce

"Get out," I yell at her. "You are not welcome here."

"That's no way to be talking to someone, alpha," she calls me alpha mockingly. "Especially one who knows your secret."

"Maybe it's not a secret," I spit.

"So you think the elders are going to be overjoyed that their new leader is human?" She plops down on my bed casually.

"What the hell do you want, Olivia?"

"You," she says breathlessly.

"Not going to happen," I scoff. "What did I ever see in you?"

"Oh please, Adam. Don't act like you stopped loving me. We were together for two years! That human will never love you the way I do."

I let out a sick laugh and I can feel my wolf surfacing.

"The second I saw her, I forgot who you even were."

"Bullshit!" She screams out, she's trying hard to contain the tears. I can't stop myself now.

"I saw her at Starbucks. The same day you asked me what took me so long getting your coffee. I stopped her and told her how beautiful she was. I pleaded for her to tell me where she worked so I could see her again. I told you that I was busy with pack duties so I couldn't take you out on a date. Really I was out with her, loving her more in that one moment than our entire relationship."

"You don't mean that," she sniffles.

"I do. Leave now." I know I was harsh but my wolf wasn't having anything she was saying.

She gets up to leave but then stops at the door. "One more," she says quietly.

"What?"

"Take me to the coffee shop one more time, like we used to. For me to say goodbye. I always knew the day would come where you'd find your mate but I wouldn't have thought she'd be human." She speaks the word like venom. "Regardless, just one more time, Adam." Her eyes plead with me.

"No."

"Please," she says. I can practically feel the desperation coming off her.

"Fine. Meet me in the car. We leave in 5 minutes."

"Thank you." She fixes her clothes and leaves with one more sniffle.

What have I just signed myself up for? I sigh and hop off my bed and head towards the door. I think it's time I talk to Anna again. I'll call her when I get back.

Driving to Starbucks was nothing but awkward. The tension was high. She could clearly tell I didn't want to be there but she continued to try and make small talk with me.

I open the door for her at the coffee shop once we arrive. I won't be rude.

We sit down at our usual seat towards the back.

"So?" I ask.

She lets out a deep sigh. "Let me just have this moment." She puts her hand on top of mine.

This was a bad idea. I should've just said no. What if Anna saw? She comes here sometimes, right? Would it be cheating?

I'm too caught up in my thoughts that I barely notice Olivia leaning in closer to me. I feel her hot breathe fan my lips and I'm immediately disgusted.

It's then I feel something. I feel her presence. It snaps me back to reality and I push away from Olivia.

I look around the room desperately hoping to find Anna. Hoping that maybe, just maybe, she didn't see that.

I feel immense guilt when I connect eyes with hers. I know she's hurt. I almost cheated. Technically.

"Anna!" I shout at her over the loud talking and background music. Everyone turns to look at me. I don't care.

She stands still as a statue, her eyes widening in shock. "You told me you didn't..." she whispers.

"I'm not..it's a long story...please hear me out." This is not how I thought having a mate would be. She continues to play statue.

"You lied..." she regains movement and shoots me and Olivia a dirty look.

Someone inside the coffee shop yells, "he's a cheater!" And a series of agreements follow in suit.

"You don't know the full story!" I rage. They do not know me.

"They don't need to." I can feel Anna's bitterness when she speaks.

"Go home, Anna. He's clearly chosen the better bitch." Olivia smirks to herself probably thinking she's so  hilarious to use the word bitch because it means female dog.

Anna just shakes her head and takes a step outside. I quickly follow after her, grabbing her hand as she reaches for her car door.

"Let go." She says trying to pull away.

"I won't..."

She roll her eyes at me. "Your girlfriend is waiting."

"She's not my girlfriend!"

"Your side hoe? Your fuck buddy? Your booty call?"

"No, I could never see her as anything like that!"

"Just let me go." She manages to pull hard enough while I'm thinking and she opens her car door.

"Wait!" I yell loudly, more than I would like to with her. I think I just used my alpha tone.

"What?" She says taken aback. She hesitates but continues to open her door wider.

"I'll um...tell you everything. If you don't leave..."

She tenses and I know that she wants to take me up on my offer. I shouldn't have offered that. It's still too early. Fuck.

"Tell me now."

"No, not here. It's cold outside and we're standing let's go inside." I plead with her.

"I have work." I can tell she's losing her patience. She slides into the drivers seat buckling her seatbelt. What do I do? Should I just let her leave? I'll call her later. No, I can't do that. There's a huge possibility that she'll never talk to me again after this.

So I do what seems most logical and reasonable in that moment.

"I'm a werewolf, Anna!"
