\\ MELODY \\

Monday's are dreadful.

The only part of Monday I enjoy is the part where I get to sleep, waiting for Tuesday to arrive.

When I get home from school, I change into one of Justin's old t-shirts and pajama shorts. I grab my phone and make popcorn. Once I've done that, I decide to watch Netflix.

Half way through Gossip Girl, I pause the TV and make another popcorn run.
My phone buzzes. I got a message from Violet, one of my close friends.

Vi: Good luck

Before I can reply, the door to the apartment bursts open and in walks my roommate. His hair disheveled, white shirt ripped open.

"I've made a mistake," he whispers, falling onto his knees as the door slams shut.
"What have you done this time, Justin?" I ask. My mind automatically thinks of the worst possible idea.

"Who'd you sleep with this time?" I ask, avoiding eye contact with this boy on the floor. Also known as my best friend.

"No one, Melody! What do you think of me?" He looks up at me, clearly hurt that I would ask such a question.
"You can't blame me for thinking that, Justin. Just last week you brought a girl home," I shudder at the memory. It hurts every time I have to listen to my best friend with other girls.
I love him so much.

"I'm sorry, Mel. I don't want to fight," he says, his head low. I shake my head, those pleading eyes melting my heart inside. "C'mon," I say, grabbing his hand and pulling him off the floor.
I guide him to the sofa and we sit down.
"Tell me what happened," I instruct.

"I...I beat up Trae Livingston," he breathes. My eyes widen.
"Trae the owner of the fighting club?" I ask.
He nods.
"Trae the one who has several body guards who work for him and are extremely fit?"
He nods yet again. I start to panic and begin pacing. "How did you manage to do that, J?" I ask. He shrugs, getting up to stand next to me.
"If you freak out, I'm going to too," he says, grabbing my waist and pulling me back to the sofa. He wraps his hands around my waist and nestles his head in my neck.
I take a deep breathe and close my eyes.
"What are we gonna do?" I ask him.
"No, Mel. This isn't your problem. I'm not dragging you into this," he says, firmly into my ear.
"Of course it's my problem. You're my best friend and to be frank, I fear for your life," I defend.
"I managed to beat up Trae Livingston, I'm sure I'll be fine," he says.
"That's not funny," I say, smacking his arm. I feel myself start to panic again.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Calm down," he says, breathing into my neck. I shut my eyes.
With Justin, I feel safe. But I'm not the one who needs to be safe.

After moments of silence, Justin whispers in my ear. "You hungry?"
I nod. "There's left over pizza from last night," I tell him. Slowly, I feel his weight being lifted and the heat that was once there, gone.
When he comes back he hands me a plate with Dominos pizza on it.
"Thanks," I say, grabbing it from him.
He sits down, once again pulling me into him. He grabs the remote and plays Gossip Girl.
"Where are you? Where's Bass?" He asks, which causes me to laugh.
Eventually, things start to feel normal again.

Later that night, once I've gotten out the shower, I change into Justin's t-shirt and sweatpants. As I'm walking from the bathroom to my bedroom I hear Justin call out.
"Hey, Mel?"
"Yeah?" I pop my head into his room. His light is on, but he lies in his bed.
"Sleep with me?" He asks.
I think about all the girls he's brought into his room and about what they did on that bed.
"I'm not so sure..." I start.
"Please?" He asks. Something in his voice pleading.
"Okay," I say, switching the light off and making my way to his bed. He's already pulled the covers back for me and all I do is climb in.
He wraps his hands around my waist and pulls me to him.

"Goodnight, Mel," he whispers.
"We'll be alright. I promise,"
