Dark POV

I walked the day-lit streets of Chicago, another murder having taken place just last night. I expected it to be Anti's handiwork, but it turned out to be impostorous. Sure, the police still couldn't figure out the details, but trace evidence was left at the scene. Definitely not a mistake he would like to make.

A few people gave me sideways glances as I walked past, but I ignored them. Being a tall, broad-shouldered man with bright red hair and a torn-up flannel wasn't so bad, was it? Sure, I kept a shorter shirt on underneath, but there were weirder people out here.

I was here to investigate Anti's whereabouts, having been searching for him and Y/n since he escaped me a few weeks ago. I shook my head, he annoyed me so much that night. How could he make his getaway without me knowing? I couldn't even find his scent after that. I ended up burning the whole place in anger... Not the best idea when it still had smoke alarms.

I did make my escape soon after, though. But now, I was on a mission to find him. He didn't deserve his free pass to the human world, yet who was I to judge? I jogged up the stairs to an apartment building, the next one on my extremely long list. It was a cleaner, bigger one that seemed it would've held someone cleaner and better financed than the street drug addicts I'd found at the last apartment complex.

I glanced around, checking a piece of paper and asking other people if a girl named Y/n lived here. A few shunned me, but one answered.

"Yeah. She's down the hall in 16A." I nodded and said my thanks before turning down the hallway.

12A, 13A, 14A, 15A, here we go. 16A came into view, the door exactly like the others, but farther away.

I knocked gently, not expecting an answer. However, the door opened to a girl in her pajamas, her hair messed up as if she'd just crawled out of bed. She looked very familiar, must be her. Her eyes widened when she saw me.

I opened my mouth to speak, her slamming the door in my face. Instantly, I was irritated.

I knocked again, "Are you Y/n?" I asked, the door opening slightly.

"Why do you want to know?"

"You know why. You were attacked by Anti the other week and I saved your ass."

"THAT WAS YOU?? Wait... Oh HELL no!" she attempted to close the door again, my foot stopping it.

"So you talked to him. Fantastic." I made my tone serious, "Now let me in." I glared at her, my eyes flickering red.

She kept trying to push all her weight on the door, myself just standing there annoyed. After several seconds of her grunting to keep the door closed, I set my hand on the wood and pushed it open as if she wasn't even there. When I released it, her body slammed it shut behind me.

"WELL MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME, WHY DON'T YOU??" she boomed at me, her hands on her hips.

I rolled my eyes and stuck my hands in my pockets. Just then, Anti came walking from a room.

"What's all tha racket fer- oh shite fuck me..." he cowered a bit, making my way toward him.

He raised his hands in defense, "H-heya, Dark... Listen, don't be mad at me. I was jus' messin' with ya..."

"Don't be apologizing now, Anti you scum!" I snapped at him, offsetting my jaw in irritation. I stopped in front of him, my eyes locked ferociously on his. He was still cowering, which was odd.

"Get up, dammit." I stepped back, holding out my hand. He took it cautiously and I pulled him to his feet. "Look, I don't know what you're doing here, but for whatever reason, I'm glad I found you."

He gave me a confused look as if he was wondering why I didn't just murder his ass right here and now.

"What the hell are you doing here, anyway?" I asked, also confused.

He gave Y/n a glance, "She kinda took me in after she found me asleep beside her one mornin'..."

"Hey hey! You were being creepy and asked if I could take you in!" she protested, her hands on her hips.

I snickered at them, "You two sound like an old married couple-"

"DARK WHAT THA FOOK??" I burst out laughing, bending over a bit with the force. I raised my hand to fend off the slaps from Anti and Y/n, still laughing.

Well, I knew how to piss people off, didn't I?

---

A few hours later, we sat chatting casually about the new murderer running about.

"It seems to be another male. But I'm not quite sure." I replied to a question Y/n gave.

"What evidence has been left? I haven't heard from my friend at the Station in a while-"

I choked on a glass of water I was drinking, "Excuse me? A friend at the Station?" I leaned forward a bit.

"Yeah. I'm friends with the Police Chief."

"Well holy shit, why am I here then?" I get up, starting to leave. But I'm stopped when Y/n grabs my wrist.

"Please, don't leave. This is crucial." I pulled away.

"If I stay, there'll be consequences to not only me, but you as well." I went to leave again, Anti appearing in front of me.

"Ya can't leave, Dark. She's seen ya."

I gave him a look, "And what do you mean by that?"

He gave me a glance toward her then back at me. I got his message, but I ignored it. I felt my eyes twitch, him receiving a message to move before I snap. He swallowed and reluctantly moved aside, letting me pass, open the door, and leave.
