This wasn't how you would have imagined Ontario. The year is 2043 and everyone still living has been forced to battle the super villains.
Recently, my dad had left the family to go in and fight. It seems that every breath I take, it feels like my last.
Before tragedy had struck the world, I had never believed, not even in my wildest dreams, that there were super villains. But it turns out, we all have a villain inside of us. We just have to gain enough confidence not to engage in our inner villain selves.
A sudden "BOOM" came from the window above the sofa. As my mother paced around the small, empty apartment looking for a spot, a tiny whisper came out of my younger sister, Whinny's mouth. "Will we die?".
"Whinny," I cried as I brushed a strand of golden blonde hair behind her ear; "this hasn't even started yet".
This is where my story begins.

My sister and I were shoved into a dusty cupboard in the kitchen to protect us from the villains who had been destroying many. Every little cough that came out of Whinny's mouth could be the last; as I was forced to throw my hand over to stop another noise from coming out.
Now was the time for a hero.

The frost nipped at my nose as I took every shaky step towards the young man on the street. My mother had sent me out to do the groceries and maybe find somebody that needed shelter.
As I began to approach the young man, I noticed that he was not much older than me. Maybe about 16.
Caught up in the moment, I slipped on an ice patch just beside the curb and felt myself fall to the street. The first thing I saw as I awoke from my fall was the young man's bent nose.
"I would have caught you, but your face was too mesmerizing". His voice creaked as he spoke.
"Yeah. Right. Need shelter? My house is kind of um... Open for business right now".
"Will I see you?"
"Of coarse"
"Then I'd be delighted".

The light seeped through the window almost blinding me as I awoke. The door squealed open as the young man stepped in.
"We have to get out of here" he whimpered.
"They're coming. Aren't they?"
"Just pack." As he turned away and shuffled back out the door, he briskly turned back and said; "I'm Andrew, if you were wondering".
"I'm Grace".

Without hesitation, we ran out the front door; feet pounding on the pavement as we ran for our lives. Nobody could stop us now; we were going to be the superheroes that we had always dreamed of becoming.

I hit the ground with a "THUMP". Gasping for air, Andrew lay beside me on the ice-cold ground, humming a relaxing tune to calm my nerves.
Andrew kindly lifted me up to safety In a nearby ditch. "Let's relax for a while" he whispered gently. "I'd love to".
Now was not the time to rest; Citizens bolted from sidewalk to sidewalk to escape the madness. This wasn't a war. They were super villains- we were regular people; we had no chance but to flee to a place without villains. But that was a chance we weren't sure we would take.

Sirens flared in the distance as I limped with Andrew by my side to a gas station. "One map please. And maybe about 20 bus tickets out of here", Andrew's voice was slightly unsteady as he spoke. He flashed me a quick glance and I sensed the fear in his eyes.
Whinny tugged at my sleeve; "where are we going?"
"Somewhere safe. Andrew has some sort of idea where we're headed".
I received the same look from Whinny; fear.
"Thanks. Hey- stay safe . Okay?", Andrew called back to the man working at the station.
Now we were on our way to wherever we were headed. Hopefully.

Two nights passed and I found myself sitting on the couch at an abandoned house. I looked to the side and Andrew was there; arm around me. He glanced over and saw the fear in my eyes, the same as I had seen in his eyes just a week before. A soft hand brushed a strand of red hair behind my left ear. Whinny.

"Are you afraid, whinny?" I asked.
"Where's mom?" "Whin, she's never-" I was cut off; "coming back?" There it was. Whinny had found out; she finally got the point.
We were never going to see her again.

I lay next to Andrew; my head rested on his shoulder. What if, I thought. I spend the rest of my short, devastating life with him? What if. What if maybe, just maybe, he felt the same way about me?

"Alana, please. Just forget about it?" Andrew had pain in his eyes.
"Our anniversary was ruined. The day we broke up. Who does that? Well, look at me now; you did this!"
"Oh" Andrew chuckled. "Yes, that was totally me that turned you into a world known super villain".
Alana was fierce. Scary. "Shut up!", the tone of her voice threw me of coarse. She really was evil. A tear trickled down my face as I stood up.
"Alana?" I grabbed Andrew's hand tightly. "You can't take down the world without a partner like this".
And then, right at the moment, time seemed to stand still. A smile slowly spread across Andrew's pale face.
Now it was time- to change the world
