"She's awake!"
The words, the first ones she heard, the first she would remember, were spoken by a boy sitting next to her bed. She watched him for a moment, not knowing who she was, who he was, where they were, anything. "Who-?" She started, only to be interrupted by a group of men coming in.
"Rose! You're awake! What do you remember?" One of the men in the front looked at her worriedly.
"Nothing. I don't remember anything at all."
"Well," he said, showing the others to the door, "Lets start simple, shall we? You are my daughter, Rose."
"Why don't I remember anything?"
The boy at her side spoke up, "You fell down a staircase."
"Who are you?"
The boy blushed a little bit, "I'm your..." he paused looking at the man who said he was her father, "brother."
He finished kind of awkwardly.
She looked at him, then at her in the mirror across from each other. He looked nothing like her. He had light blond hair and blue eyes, while she had dark black hair and brown eyes. Thinking on it, she noticed her "Dad" looked nothing like her too, with dusty red hair and green eyes. Just as she was getting suspicious, a woman came in, "Hi sweetie, I'm your mom." She also looked very different, from both her, and the other two boys. She had caramel hair and light gray eyes.
"Um..." Rose started, feeling like she had to ask, "Am I adopted?"
The group looked around, then agreed, telling her she and her brother were both adopted, as the couple could not have children. Her adoptive parents left, leaving her with her adoptive brother. "Listen," he whispered, " Don't listen to them? They're lying!" He heard footsteps and said a little louder, "My name is Jesse."
Rose caught on quickly, and asked, "Are they nice?"
"Very." Jesse shook his head vigorously while he was saying this, with wide frightened eyes.
The footsteps moved on, then from below them, "Dinner!"
Jesse led her to the kitchen, and they sat down, digging into their food. While she was eating, she couldn't help looking at the people Jesse claimed were lying to her. For some reason, she felt like she could trust Jesse, but she didn't know why. She just met him. He just had a sort of aura around him. As she thought this, she noticed something. Jesse did have an aura. He glowed ever so slightly, and the air around him rippled.
She turned away, and went back to her food, noticing one last thing. She had an aura too.

Back on her room she stared at the mirror. She glowed a light gold color, and Jesse, she remembered, glowed a light purple. As she was looking in the mirror, she examined her clothes. She was wearing a simple white shirt and jeans. Slowly, something grew heavy around her neck. She looked up from her shoes (blue converse) and saw a necklace that wasn't there a moment ago. She looked down, and took off the necklace. It had a silver timepiece on the end of a silver chain. Just then Jesse came in. "Come here!" He whispered urgently, motioning for her to follow him. She followed him outside. He led her into a garden, bursting with flowers and trees. She couldn't help but sigh, as she saw the flowers she was apparently named after, the roses.
"Listen, I think I know who your parents are." Jesse whispered, looking over his shoulder to see if they were being followed.
"Who?" Rose wasn't quite as good at keeping her voice down, which Jesse immediately pointed out, shushing her vigorously.
"Sorry..." She whispered apologetically.
"If I'm correct, you look a lot like your mother. I'm pretty sure her name was Ruby."
"Was?"
"They," he said glaring at the house, "poisoned them on a dinner party. I'm sorry." He sounded genuine, so she hugged him tightly. He slowly hugged her back, and then pulled away.
"Why? Why would they do that?"
"They were time travelers."
Rose looked down at the necklace in her hand. She lifted it slightly, and Jesse looked at it too. "Judging by that, so are you."
"I'm a time traveler!" She almost yelled it, but luckily stopped herself.
"Well, let's test it out. Spin slightly and think of a moment ahead of you. Maybe 30 seconds from now."
She did as told, and spin around. She felt as though she was being sucked into a tunnel, then spit out. She opened her eyes to see Jesse. "It didn't work!" She whispered dissatisfied.
"Yes it did, you were gone for 30 seconds, you time traveled."
Wow. She thought, smiling.

Sorry if this chapter is a little short. I wanted to end it on her time traveling. Hope you enjoyed!
