Chapter 2.

When Kat got home from school, she flopped backwards onto her bed and stared at the ceiling. She still had glow-in-the-dark stars decorating the ceiling above her, refusing to take them down despite the fact that she was nearly seventeen. The stars hardly had any glow to them, but reminded Kat of summer and stargazing on her balcony. And any time that Kat thought of her balcony at night, she automatically unlocked the memory of Blake.

"You really like talking to me?" Kat asked as Blake smiled at her.

"Of course I do," he answered, "you're fun to be with. Jordan gets annoyed with you, but that's just because you're his little sister. Even though you're like two years younger than me, you're more fun to be with than a lot of the girls in my class." Kat's eyes were wide when Blake looked at her. He chuckled, "You're cute, Kat."

She blushed in the darkness and laid her head onto his shoulder. "What's the craziest thing you've ever done?" she asked after several moments. Blake paused before answering,

"I don't really know. What about you?"

"Well, I think it's kind of crazy to wake up your brother's friend in the middle of the night because you're bored… especially if you like the guy," she lifted her head and looked at Blake, "that's kind of crazy, right?"

He grinned, "Yeah, kind of crazy. But that's okay. Because this is kind of crazy too," he said before he kissed her.

Kat jumped in surprise when her phone began to ring. She answered quickly when she saw it was her brother, "Jordan! Hey!"

"Hey sis, how was your first day of school?" her brother spoke through the phone.

"Nothing special. We have a new teacher for Anatomy, but other than that, nothing really. The classes seem pretty easy from what I can tell. How's college life?"

"It's so awesome, Kat, you have no idea. There's so much freedom! And no uniforms like Coolidge, which you don't even realize how awful they are until you get out of them. You have to come visit me sometime and I'll show you around campus and stuff. Once I find my own way around. I've gotten lost a ton already; this place is huge!"

Kat laughed, "I bet it is! If Mom and Dad don’t want me driving the whole three hours to see you we can meet halfway or something, but I do want to come visit."

"Sure thing, sis. Oh, just a tip, laugh at Mr. Dennis' jokes, even though they're always really lame, because then he'll like you and you'll pass the class no matter what. I gotta go, but I just wanted to check in. You good?"

Kat debated on mentioning Blake, but ended up deciding to refrain. Though Jordan had never opposed his friend and sister's relationship, he had never been a large supporter of it.

She ended the call with her brother and changed out of her uniform. Avery walked into her room without knocking. "Your mother let me in," she said as she sat on the edge of Kat's bed. Kat was used to random entrances from her best friend.
