I Think I Need Some Space

Wad froze. Prem was staring right at him. "Think Wad think! Come up with an excuse!" He thought quickly.

"Um...sorry P'...there was something on your face." He lied.

Prem said nothing still staring at Wad, still surprised. He was wondering at first if it was just his imagination but it wasn't, Wad was actually touching his face, even though Wad had said that there was something on his face, he didn't care his heart was pounding and words just wouldn't come out of his mouth.

The silence was deafening. Wad actually wanted Prem to say something like "oh ok" or "no problem" but he said nothing and just kept on staring which made Wad even more nervous. So he made up another excuse.

"Uhh P'... so I'll be going back to bed now." Then he turned to the other side facing away from Prem. Neither of them could sleep that night. Wad battling with his feelings and Prem battling hard not to express his true feelings to Wad.

In the morning they helped his mom clean the shop before opening it. His mom ran a local bakery which was really popular in their community. Ever since after that night before Prem could sense that something changed between the two. Wad was a bit standoffish and would not even make eye contact with him. " Maybe it's all in my head, I might just be overreacting." He thought, but during dinner 🍴 he didn't sit beside him like the day prior. Prem still thought he was just overreacting. But when it was time for bed Wad told Prem that he was going to sleep with his mom tonight instead. A feeling of sadness swept over Prem, now he knew for sure that something was wrong and tried to think back on if he did anything wrong.
It was now time for them to leave. This trip did not live up to Prem's expectations. He thought he would get to spend more time with Wad but instead he was ignored by him. Even on the way back they didn't say a word to each other as Wad had his earphones in.

They finally reached the university and Prem was determined to find out what the problem was from Prem.

"Wad...?"

"Yes P'Prem?"

"Did I do something wrong? Did I offend you some how?"

"Huh?" Wad was now getting nervous, what was he to tell Prem? That he thinks he likes him?

"I'm asking you if I've done something wrong, you've been avoiding me the whole stay."

"It's not that I'm avoiding you...I just have a lot on my mind right now"

"What is it? We've talked about this before you can tell me anything."

"Not this!" Wad snapped back.

"...What?"

"I'm sorry P but I don't think I can tell you this one..."

"Wad come on" Prem reached out his hands to touch him but he stepped back avoiding his reach.

"Wad..." Prem said feeling heartbroken

"P'Prem... I think I need some space."

Those words cut Prem like a knife.

"W-what?"

"I said I think I need some space, I'm sorry but I'm going through something really personal right now and I need to be by myself for a bit.." Wad felt as if he needed to be away from Prem to figure out his feelings.

"Wad let's just talk this through please" Prem pleaded.

"I'm sorry P' I have to go" and started walking

"Wad! Don't go! Just talk to me! Please..." Prem begged sounding like he was about to cry. But Wad just kept on walking

Prem was devastated, he felt as if his heart was about to explode. He purposely held back his feelings for Wad from him because he didn't want jeopardize their friendship as being close to Wad was just enough for him. But now all of that could possibly be over, over something he doesn't even know what. What would normally take him 5 minutes to get to the dorm took him 20 minutes as if kept on spacing out while walking back home.
  When he finally got home he flung himself on the bed, he was now in his safe space, his eyes filled with tears.
Then his phone went off, it was a text message from Wad. He jumped quickly to read it

"P'Prem, let's not be friends anymore."
