Aleigh p.o.v.
I steadied tromós as I placed my in her carefully on the trigger. I aimed precisely at the head of my prey. I am the hunter, because I was the hunted. I peered over the bush, the only thing that separated me from my worst enemy. The one who had caused me all of my problems. The one who made me lie to my mother, and force her to work at some bad at club in New York. If he had just not shown up, my life may have been normal. I held my jacket close to me, the one Selena had given me. Ready. Aim.
"Aleigh!" I lost my focus and the arrow shot straight up into a tree. I turned around to see Danny standing there with a blank expression on her face.
"Danny!" I yelled frustrated. I got up and walked over to the tree, yanking the portrait of Apollo off of the trunk.
"Sorry," she said rubbing the back of her neck," I just came to tell you that Justin was looking for you." I sighed.
"Right. Um, is it important?"
Danny pursed her lips," We aren't sure yet."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, you know his half sister, Leah?" I nodded.
"She's asleep."
"So, she's a child of Hypnos. They tend to do that."
"Oh, gee, thanks, Al, I didn't know," she said sarcastically while flipping her messy red braid over her shoulder. As much as she tried to hide it, underneath her flannel green shirt, and ball cap, she was the daughter of Aphrodite.
"Listen, you know I wouldn't bother you if it wasn't an emergency, but she's asleep....and she's not waking up." I sighed.
"Okay," I said reluctantly," I'm coming."I walked through the doorframe to the Hypnos cabin to see Leah laying on her bunk, with Justin sitting next to her.
"Hey," I said.
"Hi, have you seen Isabelle or Bethany? They were supposed to meet us here, but I'm not sure where they are." I shook my head.
"No." I stared at the wall for a while.
"It was today wasn't it?"
"What."
"The day he left," he began,"the day Apollo faked his death?" I nodded.
"Yeah, it's-its today." He got up and walked over.
"You need to talk."
"I don't talk," I responded shortly. He nodded.
"Not even to me? Come on," he gave me a light dig in the shoulder. I gave him a small smile.
"You're the last person I'd tell secrets to. Remember two years ago when I told you I had a crush on Davey Thomas?"
"Yeah, and I don't see why. I'm much more handsome."
"Not my point," I responded.
"Okay, so I may have told people your crush, but I can keep secrets now." I lowered my head.
"It's not a secret at all. I make it quite obvious that I don't care for Apollo."
"You shot an arrow at a portrait of the guy's head. I think that's a little more extreme than just 'not caring for him'."
"Well, okay, the secret's out! I hate him! He's the reason my Mom left me! He's the reason I've lost everything! He-"
"Your mom left you," he said with a look of concern on his face,
"Look, I'm here because Danny insisted I come check in on that baby sister of yours, not to talk about me, or my problems. So let's just wake up sleeping beauty, and get it over with, k?" I walked over to Leah before he could argue. I brushed a hair off of her face and saw the remains of some kind of red powder.
"What is that?" Justin shrugged.
"I'm not sure. It was all over the ground at the Athena cabin." I nodded and stood up from the bed, just as Isabelle and Bethany came running inside.
"Where have all been," Justin asked.
"Looking for Gracie," Bethany responded.
"And I'm guessing you did not find her," I commented. She stared me down.
"How did you know," Isabelle asked.
"Maybe, because she's not with you," I said like I was talking to a toddler.
"Aleigh..." Justin began. I rolled my eyes and tugged on my jacket.
"Anyways," Justin began, but before he could continue, a small voice arose above the rest.
"Hello?"
The voice belonged to Leah Strong.
