Setting: thousands of years later
He woke up buried under a pile of broken parts from old cars, random scraps of metal, and unwanted junk that had no other place to go. He was buried in a garbage dump. He felt his heart racing, and himself gasping for air. Then he remembered he didn't have a heart. Or lungs. Or any body parts for that matter. He was a robot.
But, why was he in the dump?
He tried to remember, placing both robot hands on his head, but nothing came to him. Perhaps he had been a bad robot. Perhaps nobody wanted him around. Perhaps he was a mistake waiting to happen. He sighed. Maybe he deserved to be in the dump. Maybe he-
He heard a loud rumbling sound. He tried to fight back his curiosity, but in the end he couldn't resist. He pushed himself out of the pile of junk. Outside, it was gloomy. Dark, gray clouds hovered above giant factories emitting clouds of smoke and gas. Trees were withered down to their core. Dirt and dust flew freely through the air, making it harder to see. Towering sky-scrapers were visible from far, far away. The earth had changed so much over the last couple thousand years, but he didn't know.
The robot didn't know of the world which had been before. Of the world with beautiful, gorgeous trees that towered over the buildings. Of a vast, clear, bright sky full of few clouds. Of a world full of so many colors, and opinions, and people, and animals.
All he knew was the world he was in. A world littered of trash. An overcrowded world where you barely have any space to live. A war-driven world where peace was never an option.
As the robot got to his feet, he heard the noise again. He looked around, but there was no evidence of anything that gave off a sound. Then, he looked to the sky, and there it was: a giant aircraft was flying towards him.
He stared at it for a few seconds before regaining his consciousness. Then, he quickly realized he was in big trouble, and made a run for it.
For all he knew, this was the last of his short, pitiful life.
