Chapter 2: Attachment

You sit down and stare out the window, tears still flowing down your cheeks. As soon as you wiped them away, you heard a long speech over the intercom. The whole plane went silent. Waiting about 10 seconds, you realized its the pre-flight air line safety speech. You sat back quietly and waited for the flight attendant to finish the speech.

"...Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign. If you haven't already done so, please stow your carry-on luggage underneath the seat in front of you or in an overhead bin. Please take your seat and fasten your seat belt. And also make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position. If you are seated next to an emergency exit, please read carefully the special instructions card located by your seat..."

Next thing you know Mahogany is yanking on your shirt, trying to get your attention,

"Oh my gosh", she said covering her mouth, trying not to let out a laugh.

You shift your eyes to her, "What is it?"

"Look at her skirt" She whispered, signaling with her eyes toward the flight attendant.

And sure as hell there was a long piece of toilet paper hanging from her platted skirt. You couldn't help but start laughing. Mahogany has always been able to cheer you up when you weren't feeling your best. You kept laughing when you saw Cam look back at you with a candid smile. He loved your laugh so much, and he would always remind you of how beautiful your smile was. The plane went silent again and your thoughts faded to the background.

"...If you do not wish to perform the functions described in the event of an emergency, please ask a flight attendant to reseat you. We remind you that this is a non-smoking flight. Smoking is prohibited on the entire aircraft, including the lavatories. Tampering with, disabling or destroying the lavatory smoke detectors is prohibited by law. If you have any questions about our flight today, please dont hesitate to ask one of our flight attendants. Thank you.

The speech had finally ended after 3 long minutes. They announced a final warning and began to take fight. With your right hand, you hold Mahogany's, and cover your eyes with the other as the flight takes off. You pull out a couple melatonin's and a water to take it with hoping it would put an edge on things for the next couple of hours you were on the plane.

"Look (y/n), it's so beautiful!"

Trusting a friend that has never let you down, you, once again, uncover your eyes and look at what her attention is focused on.

"Woah, I've never seen anything like it before", you say in awe.

Mahogany then gives you a small side hug and places your head on her shoulder, with hers resting on top. She began running her fingers through your hair.

"The melatonin should kick in any minute, you'll be ok. I'll see you when you wake up".

Her words began to fade as you began to fall into a deep state of mind. Before you knew it you were fast asleep to the voice of your best friend.
