CHAPTER ONE

*Two Months Later*

“Maddy, time to go!” Dad shouts from the bottom of the stairs. I look up at the clock that reads 6:30 am. I groan in annoyance, not wanting to get up. I figure I wouldn’t have to wake up early; summer vacation has just began.

“Maddy, I mean now, get up!” My dad calls again, with irritation in his voice. I realize my dad wouldn’t let up, so I push off the covers and roll out of bed. I drag my feet tiredly on the carpet until I reach the closet.  I look over all my school uniforms, sighing with relief that I wouldn’t have to wear them again for a few months.  If I had a choice, I would be attending a public high school, but my dad is always on me for being proper and not wasting energy on typical teenage things like picking out my own clothes.

“Hm, let’s see,” I think to myself, rummaging through the clothes. I decide on a plain electric blue summer dress that was just over my knee, complimented with a brown belt. I put on a white cardigan to cover up my shoulders; I know my dad would say something if I didn’t.  I quickly rush to grab my tan flats, running to the vanity and doing up my waist length hair in a high pony tail. Once I figure I was ready for the day, I turn and look in my full length mirror; giving myself a once over.

“I don’t get what everyone sees.”  I say to nobody in particular. Throughout my entire life, I have been compared to a picture perfect girl; like Barbie. People say I’m flawless, but I don’t even wear makeup. Maybe if I did, maybe I could be considered as pretty. My dad is strongly against the idea of disguising myself, and “getting the boys’ attention”.

“I guess this is as good as it’s gonna get.” I say looking away from the mirror and stepping out of my room. I rush down the stairs, anxious that my dad is waiting. I see him outside, waiting for me in his new BMW 7 Series black car.

“It’s about time.” He rolls his head over to me, sliding into the passenger seat. I quickly apologize and put on my seat belt. We’re going to Diamond Beach Resort; I will stay here the whole summer to meet and manage my dad’s employees. He also wants me to take over the park once he retires. I have other future plans that involve me leaving this small town and its’ fake people, getting at me for my father’s money. Someday I dream of leaving this small town where everyone knows everyone and moving to a big city to pursue my dream of professional dancing.

“You’re going to love spending your summer here with me.” Dad Smirks at me as he quickly takes his eyes off the road to look at me.  “The employees are great this year. They really know what they’re doing.” I nod my head at him, but not interested in what he has to say.

Finally, we arrive at the place I’d be spending my “fun” summer. At a first glance, the park looks like a picture on a postcard. The first thing I see is the convenience store with what looks to be employees just arriving. My dad steps out of the car and walks towards the crowd of people. From what I see, not many girls’ were working this year. My hope of making some new friends and having an okay summer slightly drop because of my nervousness I get from being around guys; especially hot ones.  My dad looks over, motioning me to follow him. I take a breath, and open the car door.

“This is my daughter Maddison; she will be observing and learning your work habits this summer. You will al respect her as much as me, she will one day be your boss.” I wave awkwardly, looking around the crowd of faces. All the faces are mostly familiar of the workers from previous years; only a few faces stood out from the ones I’ve always seen. While looking over the new faces, one stood out in particular. It is the face of a boy- or should I say man. He looks like he is around the age of eighteen with midnight black hair and emerald green eyes that add to the mystery of his character. His skin is sun kissed and shines like the bronze of an Olympic medallist. He notices my stare, giving me a smirk in return. I look down at my feet, feeling awkward for being caught ogling the guy who probably thinks I want to jump his bones.

“Alright everyone, get to work.” My dad tells the group, immediately everyone listens. The unknown face looks back at me as he bends down to pick up a life preserver. This is when I notice his shirt is red and reads in bold letters “LIFE GUARD”. If that doesn’t make him any hotter, I don’t know what does… He walks off in the direction of the beach.

My dad shouts, startling me from my naughty thoughts. “Okay Maddy, first thing for you to learn is life guard training. Go change into your swim suit and be at the beach in 5 minutes.” He says patting my back and sending me on my way.

Oh shit.
