Year Six - My Goodness! I thought a milestone was reached with the last series, but now I am reaching further into the future. For this “Year,” I already have three, possibly four, featured chapters where authors past and new have contributed. Anna-Karin Larsson steps in with a pointed look at the cost of love in “Under Siege.” Later, she provides a look at an old member of the Jellicles from a different perspective in “Tottenham Court Revisited.” Newcomer to the Chronicles, Tuomas Lempiäinen helps write “Windows of the Soul” where Prometheus (ex-Stealth) finds his Soulmate. Finally, one of my Editors, Silvana, provides a look at tensions caused by a reunion in “Silvana’s Choice.”

The Tribe has grown considerably since my first venture in the Chronicles back in August of 2000. In this year, some of the original cast will shine once more as their talents are taken down and polished up again. With such a huge cast now, it is getting hard to remember to have everyone get a point in or across. The Jellicle Ball, with the idea furnished by Anna-Karin, is going to be definitely interesting this time, but I cannot spoil it by going into too much detail. You are just going to have to read it! This Year, for example, Plato and Pettipaws, two kittens of prominent parents, become “teenagers.” Quaxo and Scatterburr are very proud of their son, and Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer love their daughter. How are they going to face their children becoming more independent? Wait and see! Other kittens are about to make their debut as Cettie, Jemmina and Exotica find their way to the Nursery. Yes, indeed - writing the Chronicles is becoming an act involving the juggling of active chainsaws!

What about Macavity? I have been told that Macavity cracked up in Year Five, and could be compared to the Caesar in the Oscar winning movie “Gladiator.” Up until now, Old Mac has had his share of defeats by the Jellicles with very few hits. He managed to get the Aegis away from Munkus only to lose the Staff of Sekhmet. He got Aphrodite, but then lost her, his biggest agent (Stealth), and another agent (Altaica). He lost Nightwalker (Beezlebub) and Shadowdancer (Shadow) from his Enforcers to the Jellicles, and I have lost count of the number of Enforcers and Trainees who either died or were crippled for life. And, Griddlebone is out of the Macavity good-graces (if there ever was such a thing!). About this time, Moriarty of Sherlock Holmes fame went crazy too. Is Macavity insane and pretty much gone? Would I tell you before you read this Year? Read on…

Again, I wish to express my thanks to my Editors, who still wish to be known by their Jellicle pen-names of Tailkinker and Silvana. They have kept my stories mostly free of grammatical and spelling errors, and periodically correct both gender and story references (please don’t ask about this!). A very special thanks goes to my Illustrator, Anna-Karin Larsson, for the artwork that graces TJC (The Jellicle Chronicles). I always hope that the stories bring people in to read the events, but quite a few come in to view her artwork. She now refers to them as “Furries,” but I still call them “Jellicles.” Finally, I wish to thank my readers, who have found TJC, and continually enjoy them as each new chapter appears. Without a reader, the storyteller has nothing to do.
