Since that incident water had always been brought to me along with food. Only vegetables were given to me - maybe a sly way to make me start dieting. My tormentor had fed me all the time, never freeing me from the ropes.
A few days or weeks later, I heard a noise. My ears had become sensitive to the slightest noise, but there never was any.
The door lock was opened.
It shone on me mercilessly, blinding me. And then that light had gone.
Now there were only two people - no, one person, a monster and darkness.
"Cass. How have you been feeling?"
I'm not Cass.
I chose not to reply.
"Cass, talk." His voice was pleading.
But I refused.
"Talk, now!" His voice was no longer calm or pleading, it was a ruthless demand.
"Talk, or else a knife will go right into your your shoulder. Don't worry, I'll take extra care to make sure you don't die." He threatened me.
"I-I'm fine." I replied quickly.
And even in the darkness, I saw his teeth.
"Good. Now go to sleep. Before I make you."
I instantly closed my eyes, petrified. My heart was beating erratically. My breathing had quickened even though I tried to control it.
***
He looked at me. "No matter what, sunshine, I will always be there for you."
My thirteen year old mind didn't understand how true it was.
