Chapter 5

Poppy's POV

I used to think that life was an easy path that would, one way or another, lead me to happiness. I used to believe in this concept of life, the bright, merry, joyful one, but, unfortunately, I soon came to realise that life wasn't so peaceful.

Life was mercyless, sickening, and repulsive.

At least, mine was.

When I was little, I was the happiest girl ever. I had caring parents, a pain-in-the ass yet nice brother, an adorable best friend, a perfect health, excellent grades at school... I was a golden girl, predestined to success, to achieve great things. Everything was going just fine, I was slowly becoming a "someone".

But in the blink of an eye, I lost everything.

I wasn't happy anymore, I was broken. My parents lost themselves in work because they couldn't bear seeing their little princess so sad. My brother forgot that he had a life, and devoted his time to take care of me. My best friend was gone forever. My health was ruined, my social life inexistant, and I didn't go to college. I wasn't a "someone" anymore, I was a weird "something".

Most people avoided me like plague, I mean, who likes zombies ? Actually, some of my old friends still tried to contact me from time to time, but I didn't want to see them. They reminded me too much of Valentino and Vivienne.

As I was sitting on the couch, watching for the third time the final season of Gossip Girl, my brother paused the show.

"Poppy, Laura is coming over but Dad needs me to go to this office, he forgot his USB key in his room so I have to deliver it. Do you mind staying with her while she's waiting for me ?"

"Don't worry about it, you can go". I really didn't mind, Laura was one of the rare people I could stand. She was Gabriel's girlfriend since two years, and I was grateful that she was so supportive to both of us since the shooting.

"Thanks sis, I won't be long. Call me if you need anything, okay ?" He worries to much, I felt bad about it.

"Just go Gabe, I'll be fine", said. He smiled and hurried to his car. Five minutes later, Laura was here.

"Hey Poppy", she greeted me with her beautiful smile. She was an amazing person, very outgoing and honest.

"Hey Laura. Gabriel had to run an errand, he'll be back soon."

"Perfect, I wanted to talk to you anyway. How have you been sweetie ?" She kindly asked. I felt like I didn't have to lie to Laura, she never judged me.

"The usual..."

"Really ? My little finger told me that you've been seeing someone", she shamelessly said.

"Is your little finger named Gabriel ?" Of course he would tell her. Laura was more than just a girlfriend for him, she was his everything, and she knew about every single aspect of his life. And since he was basically a no-life since the shooting, he told her about mine - which wasn't very interesting.

"Come oooon Poppy, I need to know everything ! Gabe was really worried when you asked him to drop you at Pinkberry to meet someone, it's been so long since you agreed to meet a friend. Tell me tell me tell me !" Such a drama queen. Laura was surely one of a kind.
