The song means that even though you have people around you, yu feel isolated from the rest of the world,because you don't have your music anymore. See, most teens have music to help them, like a therapist helps a person through depression.

When you have no music, you "sit in silence" as said in the song. People who have no music are more likely to shelter themselves or commit suicide depending on their mental state.

When you do have music, you're no longer in silence you're around those who are in the same meaning of mind as you yourself are.
Even if you don't have a way to help yourself or others, you can still offer them to listen to music with you. Like I have done so many times.
Not only is it the spread of a good song, band, or genre of music, its an escape.
