"is that?" I squinted closer, examining the white shape through the foggy window. it looked like a piece of paper; but whatever it was, it was ruined from the heavy rain.
"the ticket!!" Nicole cried, jumping out of the car into the freezing rain.
I ran after her, not even thinking once about what my hair would look like after this. I bent down next to Nicole, who was gently trying to lift up what was left of the meet and greet ticket with her pale, icy hands.
the black and red ink bled through the whole rectangular paper, making it nearly impossible to read.
it was ruined. no way it could be salvaged.
Nicole and I sat on my lawn in the rain for a while without saying a word. I could feel time pass as each raindrop fell to the ground. we realized that it was illogical for us to sit like idiots in the rain, so we went back into my warm car.
"listen, Nickie, I still have one more ticket. you paid for the last concert we went to, so it's only fair you take the ticket," I explained softly to Nicole, reaching for the second ticket from my pocket. "I'll even talk to someone who works there, and maybe they'll let me."
"Simone, our promise? we said we would meet them together! I-"
"it's okay. they'll let me in, don't worry." I smiled reassuringly and began to drive.
the drive was only about 45 minutes, and there was only small talk between Nicole and I throughout the ride. the rain began to clear up, but it was still cloudy and cold.
everything would be okay, I told myself.
of course they would still let me in! I did have that ticket in the first place.
