"Alex? Is that you?"
"Sorry do I... Oh my god Blake!"
"Oh my god Alex it is you!"
"What are you doing here?"
"Shopping. You?"
"Same. Oh my god look at you. Your hair is almost as dark brown as mine. And your brown eyes are so beautiful. Gosh Blake I miss you so much."
"I miss you too sis."
"How's things going?"
"As good as they can in a orphanage or whatever I'm even living in."
"It's a foster home Blake. It's what's best for you."
"No it's not I want to be with you. Not with mom but just you and me. It's not the same there, nobody knows what we've been through. Together."
"Well it's better for you there."
"The only good thing there is that I don't hit daily by mom."
"I know. Lately moms been really busy you know making money and all that stuff."
"So you're not helping?"
"Only a little bit not as much as I had to." A strange lady came walking towards us.
"Blake there you are."
"Damn it I hoped I lost you." With Blake's comment the lady rolled her eyes and her attention shifted to me.
"Hi, I'm Blake's mom." Now Blake rolled her eyes.
"No you're not! Just cause I live with you doesn't make you my mom. I'd rather be back on the streets than have you as my mother." Blake sounded so angry and frustrated. I looked into her eyes and she looked so sad and angry at the same time. I know my sister and I know that she never cries. The only time I saw her cry was when she was taken away.
"Ok Blake maybe calm down for a minute."
"Oh don't worry she acts like this all the time."
"No I am worried. YOU can't tell me who to be worried about. I looked down at Blake and she came into my arms and put her head against my chest. I was swaying and singing a song that I sang to her as a baby in a almost whisper. She looked up and smiled and in that moment I saw that Blake, my little sister that absolutely hates makeup is wearing eyeliner. It honestly looked good on her. It gave her that edge, that don't mess with me look. She even has the attitude to go with it. She eventually pulled away but stood at my side.
"Wait you're Blake's older sister aren't you?"
"No not at all" Blake answered sarcastically.
"I'm sorry Blake I don't read minds."
"Yeah well if you did you wouldn't want to read mine." I tried so hard to not laugh. I smiled I little but then stopped and cleared my throat.
"Blake that's not very nice."
"Oh please we used to say that to people all the time." We both laughed thinking about the memories and all the peoples reactions to our comments.
"Ok fine so it's funny but that doesn't make it nice."
"Since when do you care if what we say is nice or not?"
"Ok fine so I still don't care but you should. That's no way to treat someone who has been so generous to let you live under her roof."
"Well I didn't really have a choice if she lived with me or not."
"Wow. Now I know why Blake doesn't like you. You're so stuck up and self-centered."
"Well now I know where Blake gets her attitude from."
"Actually I've had that my whole life." Blake says with a smile as if she was as innocent as can be. But yet again I know my sister and she's not innocent she's a straight up savage.
"Blake can you at least let me be rude to one person."
"Sure but not my sister. Unless you want to have a black eye for a week.
"I doubt that you can do that."
"I wouldn't underestimate Blake. She might be small but she packs a hard punch." Blake smiles innocently.
"Wait why should I believe you?"
"Because I've lived with her for a long time and she's punched me before."
"I'll take my chances instead of believing some druggy."
"Ok now you should start running cause you're gonna be bleeding from my little fists." She moved back and Blake tried to charge but I grabbed her.
"Alex let go of me! I've wanted to see her in pain for a while now but that was the last straw."
"No Blake don't make it to her level. She's not worth the time or energy."
"Fine but if you hear a lady screaming help later it's not my fault." We both laughed. I reached into my bag with my free hand and grabbed a pair of earrings I got today.
"What's this for?"
"It's a promise."
"A promise for what?"
"That I'll always love and protect you."
I bent down a little and whispered in Blake's ear.
"I'm gonna try to get you back Blake."
"Blake we've gotta hurry before the mall closes"
"I doubt that the mall is gonna close anytime soon."
"Well still we should hurry to get home before supper."
"Ok now that's a better reason." Blake looked up at me and smiled but then it faded.
"Can't I stay with Alex for a little bit?"
"No Blake, we need to get you some new clothes."
"I actually we don't but it wouldn't hurt to get some more jeans or something. So since I don't need stuff can we stay for a little longer."
"Five minutes. I'll be over there talking to that handsome fellow."
"Sorry nobody has said handsome fellow since the Stone Age."
"Whatever." Blake and I were both relieved when she left but it didn't seem like 5 minutes wasn't enough time to catch up on missing 2 years of my little sisters life. We had a basic conversation like how old she was and how school was going. Hearing all this new stuff made me realize that she's not happy and neither am I. I haven't seen Blake since she was 10 and now she's 12 and we're practically twinning. I can't believe it, my little sister has went through so much and I can see it's damaged her but she tries not to show it that much. I can't let her go through this anymore.
