I stared at the large camera hovering over me slightly, and once I saw the flash turn on, I began to speak.
"Hey, so right now we're outside of Westerburg woods. We just traveled two hours to get here, and it's almost dark," I stated, tilting the camera to the side to show the sunset shining through the dark oak trees.
"Michael, Luke, and Calum are getting our oxygen masks and backpacks out of the truck and Lucy, Katelyn, and Veronica are over there putting batteries in the flash lights."
I positioned the camera on a nearby log, and pointed it at the large forest. Even looking at it from the end of a meadow a few yards away, I was already beginning to feel unsettled.
Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder and jumped when I saw a figure tower above me. I snapped my head up, but sighed in relief when I caught a glimpse of bright red hair. It was only Michael.
"So, are you gonna tell them about the history of this place?" He smiled, sitting down on the log next to the camera.
Michael was my best friend for the longest time. We didn't have much in common; he liked video games and punk music, I liked to read a lot of cheesy john green teen romances and listen to more alternative pop bands, but there was one thing we had in common; we were both extremely adventurous.
"Why not," I replied, chuckling.
"The reason why we're here is because these woods are said to be one of the most haunted in the world. There is a legend that in the middle of the woods, there used to be a large, once overcrowded asylum that bustling with the most mentally insane people. One day, an inmate suffering from insanity burnt the asylum to the ground, burning the patients and employees so badly, their bodies were unidentifiable by police.
These woods are supposedly still haunted by the ghosts of vengeful patients, jealous of the mentally sane people still alive today. Legend has it, once you enter these woods, you begin to see things; shadows, faces. Then, you begin to hear screams of agony, the sound of fire crackling, and the sound of footsteps pounding towards you. Then, you smell it; the thick stench of blood, smoke, and mud that burns your nose."
"And who told you this?" Michael smiled smugly.
"I don't know, some loser probably on wikipedia."
Michael laughed out loud. "Let's be real, there's nothing in these woods. If there was, people would've already discovered it."
"True," I laughed nervously. As I stared at the tall trees standing in front of me, I felt a chill rush through my body. Now, as I took in the sights, I felt like coming here would not be the best idea, but there was no turning back now.
"Bri, are you okay? Your face just went so pale," Michael questioned, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Y-yeah, I'm alright, just a bit nervous, ya know. Let's get going."
We all met by the truck, and I looked around at everyone else.
Luke was holding another camera and a backpack that contained a few snacks, matches, a pocket knife, and a ouija board. Luke was Michael's boyfriend, and I could see why Michael loved him so much. He had such a bright smile that could enlighten anyone's day, glimmering eyes that reminded me of the ocean, and an amazing, bubbly personality that could make anyone smile, even the saddest of people.
Calum was holding the flashlights and the pack of batteries along with a backpack with another camera and a portable charger to charge our phones. Calum was dating Katelyn, and I didn't know him very well considering they just started dating two weeks ago. From what I discovered, he's really nice and when you get to know him, he can be really funny.
