This is the story of Sirath and Dain which I wrote in Nanowrimo. I originally started with fifteen thousand words but ended with thirty thousand, and the story's nowhere near finishing yet! I thought I'd post it on Wattpad and Storybird, so here it is. Enjoy!
P.S. it will be rewritten when I finish the first draft. Please inform me of any mistakes or things I should change. Also, somethings may disappear when rewriting so tell me your favourite lines. -StorySpokenDragons (Rachel)
Scias had his back turned to the doorway as he watched down over the straggling lines of slaves. He relocked the window and lifted his mask to his face. Once he'd worked it on and tightened it, he fixed his sheath onto his belt.
There was a sharp rasp at the door and without permission, Steward Farren bowed slightly as he entered. "My Lord. We've sorted everything out. The people of Skyhaven are being taken to the slave camp and next week we'll built them a more permanent home."
Scias was staring out the arched black window again. The chained were almost gone, out past the horizon, but marching at the back were legions of men, all fully equipped for war. "How many casualties?" he said.
"From the whole three thousand? - four hundred My Lord. They were unaware of your plan but most of them carried knives."
Four hundred. They could easily recruit another thousand from the young men of Skyhaven if they threatened families. Silence fell over the two men, filling in all the cold spaces in the small room.
"We found the king, My Lord," Farren added awkwardly. "We have him and the princess locked up with the other prisoners."
Scias could hear the hesitation in his voice, "what?!" What are you hiding from me?"
Farren gulped and stared at his feet, "the queen escaped with her newly born son. We've searched the whole city for them."
"Search again," the masked man said quietly, "do not stop until you've found her!"
Steward Farren bowed hurriedly and departed from the room. Outside, Scias could hear Farren calling to men, organising a search party. He locked the door and slipped the key into his pocket. Scias then lifted up the small portrait of a young woman and ran his finger over her features.
"My dear Zera," he sighed, "I will avenge you, don't worry, just the mere men bring me setbacks. I won't ever stop until I've fulfilled my promise, don't ever worry about that."
He gently placed the beautiful portrait back on the windowsill and smiled out at the kingdom beneath him. "King Adrian, playing games with me?" he sneered, "don't worry, I'll soon have you and your wife reunited. Beneath my sword."
