Day 1:
Nobody said I had to follow the rules, everybody just said to obey them. Which technically means the same thing, but who cares? I don't classify myself as a rule breaker, but apparently, other people do. It makes no sense, but of course, I'd get blamed for everything. Even the major things, setting fire to the principal's office, putting pink slime in all of the girl's bathroom sinks and toilets, and even, messing with Mrs. Hendrews's desk. Although none of it was me, I'd still get blamed.
So that's why I'm sitting in front of Mr. Black, the principal, and Mrs. Hendrews, trying to explain that it wasn't me.
"It wasn't me! I swear! Sure I'd take the staples out of a stapler and put melted chocolate back in, but I'd never mess with everything. I'd never set fire to your office, Mr. Black! It's practically illegal! And I'd never ever put pink slime in the girls' bathroom. I use the restroom, too, you know," I folded my arms and leaned back in my chair.
"Ms. Matthews, your normal behaviour leads us to believe that it would be you to do all those things!" Mr. Black stood from his fold chair.
"Sir, I didn't do it. I promise. I realize you could believe that it was me, but it wasn't. Someone is framing me!"
It was technically true. Whoever did it left notes saying stuff like "Haha! Got you again!" or "You're welcome, it looks better this way," signing my name. But nobody believes me, and it kind of sucks.
Honestly, I didn't realize that it sucks that nobody believes me. When I got a kid detention because they didn't believe him that it was me who put moldy cheese in all of the school sandwiches. It was hilarious, but I kind of felt bad for him now.
"Mr. Black, you don't have to believe me, but I know that it wasn't me who did it. I'd never do any of those things," I turned to face the angry Mrs. Hendrews. "Mrs. Hendrews, have I ever done anything to prank you? Let alone another teacher?"
She looked down at the floor, thinking about the question thoroughly. "To Mr. Matthews, yes."
"He's my uncle. We do this kind of thing all the time."
"But no, nobody else."
"My point exactly! I'd never prank a teacher other than my own uncle. I'm not one who likes to get into trouble."
Mr. Black furrowed his bushy eyebrows, pondering my example. "Who else could it be?"
"Maybe the new kid? He showed up last week. That's when the pranks started!" Mrs. Hendrews announced, her eyes shining with revenge.
"Can I help get him back? I honestly don't like being framed," I frowned.
"Go for it, Ms. Matthews, but no putting him in the hospital or damaging the school. Got it?" Mr. Black pointed knowingly.
"Fine."
It was my time to shine and I'm totally going to make him pay for framing me. I was sitting there with them for at least 3 hours.
~.~
"Dustin, please solve the first equation and Reese, the second problem." My Algebra 2 teacher, Ms. Nash, pointed at us.
The new boy, Dustin, walked ahead of me, grabbing a blue Expo marker to solve the equation. As we stood side by side, solving the required equations, I whispered to him. "I know what you did."
The dirty blonde haired boy snorted. "What are you talking about?"
"You know, the fire in Principal Black's office, the pink slime in the girls' bathroom, and the mess on Mrs. Hendrews's desk. I'm on to you, Dustin," I quickly wrote down my final answer. "Nobody frames me for doing such absurd things, ever."
After setting the marker down, I walked back to my seat. As Dustin walked back to his, I glared at him.
The girl next to me, Andrea I think, leaned over and whispered, "I think Dustin might replace you and your tricks. I'd keep an eye out for him. He sounds... dangerous."
I looked down at the blank notebook page and wrote down my plan.
"Day 1:
Talk to Dustin, become friends with him. Not enemies..."
