Safe and Sound

Tears stream down my face

Mixing and mingling with the falling snow

Trudging through the snow

I stumble and fall

My bare cheek numbs

Against the cold wet snow

My head begins to pound

Tears continue to stream

I welcome the darkness

I wake up to my head in someone’s lap

“I’ll never leave you alone again” he says

I just nod too tired to fight

My eyes begin to close again

Exhaustion overtakes me

I’m pulled up

Into warmness

Arms embrace me and hands caress me

I feel a smile play at my lips

The corners of my mouth turn up

As the sobs I begin shedding rack through my body

I clutch onto him not wanting to let go

My hero

My love

My life

He holds all of these titles now

I’m hurt and broken

But maybe just maybe

I’ve found someone

Who just might be able

To not only pick up the pieces of my broken heart

But heal it as well

And I’ll be safe and sound
