The next morning I wake up to the sound of motors. I jump up and get everyone up.
"Guys..Guys, wake up I think someone is here," I whisper loudly.
Everyone wakes up and grabs their guns. Paxton goes to the window and as soon as his eyes make contact with the outside he runs away from the window.
"Let's go everyone grab your stuff!" He yells.
"Pax, what's going on?" Jake asks.
"They're army vehicles. We've got to get out of here," he says.
"How are we going to get out?" I ask panicked.
There's a banging on the door. Someone is trying break in.
"Backdoor! Backdoor!" Chase whispers.
We all run to the back door and slip out as quietly as we could. We run quickly farther out into the woods and look to see what they are doing. I see one man with his back to the backdoor. I think he is keeping watch. He turns around and we duck behind a fallen tree. I position myself just right so that I can see him, but he can't see me.
"Mary, get down," Jake warns me.
"He can't see me," I insist.
"Seriously, Mary, get down," Paxton says.
I look at the man and notice that he's not American. He makes eye contact with me.
"Oh, shoot, he sees me," I whisper and start running behind everyone else.
I turn around for just a second while we are running to see if they are after us. I see the guy motion to the window and I turn my head around and keep running. We get over a hill and hide there.
"Mary, I told you to get down," Paxton says frustrated.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to know who was invading our home," I reply.
"Just be more careful next time," He advises.
I nod my head and it's silent. The only sound is all of us breathing heavily from running. Our breathing slows and then the motor sounds echo through the woods. Paxton looks over the hill.
"Run! They are coming this way!" He exclaims and starts running.
We run behind him until it sounds like they are right behind us. When we reach the creek we jump in and go underwater. I look around to make sure everyone is there, but the water is too cloudy. I can't see anything. I feel someone pulling me and I can't see who it is. I start to panic. What if it's one of the invaders? What if they are taking me away to kill me?
Suddenly the motor sounds fade away. I don't hear anything but the water. When the motors are completely inaudible I come up out of the water. I look around and everyone is standing in the water.
"Everyone out," Paxton instructs. He was next to me, so he was the one who had a hold of me.
Everyone crawls out of the water and we lay on our backs for a moment to catch some breaths. After a few seconds I sit up and so does everyone else soon after me.
"I'm going up in this tree a little bit to see if they are back at the house," Chase says.
He climbs to the first branch and then motions everyone. He moves up a branch and everyone climbs up a little bit to see the house.
"I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, but I think it's clear," he says.
Everyone nods and we start back home. We swim through the creek, walk over the hill and then come to the back door. We walk in and start to sit down.
"Do you guys hear that?" Sydney asks.
"What?" I ask back.
"It sounds like a man talking," she replies quietly.
"Yeah, I do hear it," Pax says with a confused look on his face.
I look up and see a man standing in the doorway. He fires his gun and misses everyone. We all point our guns and shoot at him. When we get him a bunch of other guys come running down the hallway. We shoot at all these invaders. When I turn around to get more bullets I see other men and some women come from the other hallway. They have guns as well.
I hit Paxton and Jake. They turn around and start helping me shoot these people while Sydney, Marshall, Trisha, and Chase shoot the people behind us. One girl shoots at Jake and hits him. I shoot her three times to be sure she's gone. Another girl shoots at me and misses, so that gave me the chance to shoot her and she collapses to the floor.
I turned in a circle to make sure we had killed everyone. I remember Jake all of a sudden.
"Jake, are you okay?" I ask standing him up and stabilizing him.
"Yeah, it's just my stomach," he groans and puts his hand over the wound.
There was blood all over his hand within a few seconds. I jerk the First-Aid kit from my bag and take out all the supplies. I get the bullet from his stomach and then pour alcohol on it to clean it. He yells and groans from the pain. I sew up the wound and put gauze around it to be sure that the area stays clean.
"Okay, all done," I say.
"Thanks, Mary," he says standing up.
He grabs my arm and winces as he makes his way to his feet. We stand there for a second and then I hear a ticking sound.
"Do you guys hear that ticking sound," I ask.
Marshall walks over to the couch and lifts up a cushion.
"It's a bomb!" He yells.
We run out and right as we got about 30 feet from the house there's a huge explosion. We all fall to the ground from the blast and cover our heads. I can feel the heat from where I am. I get up and start running. I can hear everyone running behind me and when I reach the creek, I stop.
"Is everyone okay?" Paxton asks looking at all of us.
Everyone nods and then I look over at Jake.
"You okay?" I ask. "You're still all patched up right?"
He lifts up his shirt and looks at the wound.
"Yep," he says smiling at me.
"Well, where are we going to sleep?" Marshall asks.
"Well, there is a place out farther in the woods that is shaped kind of like a den of some sort. We will make that our new place," Paxton says and starts walking. We follow him with our guns in our hands ready for any surprises that may jump out at us. We keep walking and walking. When he said farther out in the woods I was thinking maybe an hour walk, but it's almost dark. This is a long walk.
We finally reach our destination. Paxton goes in first to check it out. He crawls in and finds out that it leads way underground. He motions us to come in. Someone or some animal had dug it a while back it looks like. Once we get down there it's the size of a full room and it is really weird considering it's underground that it would be this big. We can all stand completely up inside of it. Paxton sets out a blanket.
"Let's get some sleep guys," he says yawning. "It's been a long day."
"Yeah, goodnight everyone," I say lying down on my blanket next to Paxton.
I hear everyone say goodnight at different times and I fall right to sleep.
