Chapter 2: Friend or Foe?

           The tentacles are just a few inches towards you,but you can't move in your place. It's like the ground is a magnet that is forcing you not to move at your place. You closed your eye,waiting for the impact but you felt nothing,nothing at all. Opening your one eye,you saw a friend from a long time." Smile Dog?!" A smile form on your face,getting Smile Dog's attention,he quickly stop biting and hurriedly tackle you down,licking your face. You sit up and hugged the cute dog that became your only friend. The vines wrapping on the thing come back down the ground,it looked at you and Smile Dog in confusion.

            The thing took a step forwards and Smile Dog growled,it still taking steps towards you." Child,may I ask you something?" You looked up at him,Smile Dog only growled louder patting his head makes him feel better,looking back to the thing." You already ask a question. Go ahead and ask me." He chuckled at your response." How did you became friends with him?"

               You slightly froze for a second at the question,remembering the day you met but just all in a sudden a memory popped out.  Your eye began to light up." When I was 11,I used to roam around the forest by night to get some fresh air. While I was walking I heard something breathing heavily,I search where the sound was coming from. Then I found Smile Dog,he was badly wounded. I took him home and take care of him,when I was going to wrap his wound he almost bit me so I had nothing to do but let the vines wrap him to keep him from struggling. A few weeks later his wound is healed and I let him go back into the woods. That night he came back,I was so happy that my only friend came. 5 years ago I waited for him to come back but he never showed. I lost hope but now,he came back!" You hugged Smile Dog tighter,making him whine you only giggled.

              You stood up,dusting your clothes and started walking away with Smile Dog at your side. You completely forgot to ask the name of the thing,turning back at the thing.

" Hey! May I know your name?"

"Slenderman,the name is Slenderman. What about your's? I never caught it"

"It's (Y/n) (L/n)." You said as you spunned your heels and continued walking into the dark creepy woods.

Slenderman's POV:

         I feel a strong force on that girl. She's the first victim I encountered that attacked me for sure,only using vines that suddenly grow out of nowhere. The weirdest and confusing part is that she was a friend with Smile Dog.I even thought that he only blocked my attack so he could bite her for dinner but no....... I have a lot of questions needed to answer. One question that echoes in my brain. ' How could she grow those vines and controls it?  And what happened to her other eye?' the question lingers inside my mind and it won't go away. I was walking back to the mansion but (Y/n) won't get out of my thoughts,I keep thinking about her and what happened to her. I notice some scars on her arms and her face,is she abused? Bullied? Or been beaten by her boyfriend? I was worried about the poor child. I arrived at the mansion,waiting for troubles to come and I was right,Jane and Jeff are fighting,again.

            I sighed and walk towards the two,they look like a couple fighting over something." What happened while I was gone?" I ask them. Ben came inside the room." Jeff lost his knife and decided to 'borrow' one from Jane but,she caught him sneaking inside her room and this happened." He told me,I don't have time for this nonsense. An idea popped out of the blue,I looked down at Ben on my side and he looked at me suspiciously,giving me a 'what do you want' look." Ben, will you give me some information about a girl named (Y/n) (L/n)? If you got enough information come to my office." He nodded and walked outside the room,I looked back at the two." Now I have to deal with the both of you." I said crossing my arms.

Your POV:

         You are sitting below an Aspen tree a little far from your house,you watched the fireman putting out the fire. You patted Smile Dog's head,making you feel drowsy,the cold wind hit your skin and badly,your only wearing a eldow length (f/c) shirt,brown ripped skinny jeans and brown sneakers. You shivered every time the wind will hit your slim body,Smile Dog nuzzled on you lap making you a little warm. He seemed to noticed that your cold and he tries his best to keep you warm. The cold wind is a sign of that  Autumn is coming,you shivered more and you rubbed your arm. Smile Dog looked up at your with concern on his eyes,laying his limp body on you. You slowly drifted to sleep,with Smile Dog on your side making you warm.

             You woke up by the sound of the birds singing in the brightful morning. You slowly opened your eye,looking at your surroundings. You stopped when you saw Smile Dog sleeping on your side,you could hear his soft snorks and it makes you giggled. You poke his nose to wake him,he struggled turning back at you." Smile Dog,wake up already. It's morning and I need to find shelter for the next days." He looked back at you and turned back again,you growled at his actions, he's never been lazy like this when he still visits you every night. You stood up,didn't care if you'll wake him up. He slided and hit his head on the ground,you heard him growled and it made you giggled." Hurry up,I wanna play the game that we used to play." He quickly stood up when you said used to play ,you quickly ran into the woods while Smile Dog is chasing behind you,you remembered those day that you still playing with Smile Dog and now for all those years,you could play with him again.

       Finally,Smile Dog tackled you down the ground. He licked your face many times until you gave up. You sit up wiping your face that's wet,the cold breeze blew your hair softly,the feeling is making you to calm down. You felt hunger,your stomach grumbled,you looked around to see if there is any fruit tree but no luck. You sighed as you stood up,using your ability to grow plants and trees,you touched the ground and it become to shake,taking a few steps backwards looking at the shaking ground. A small sprout came out and it grew bigger and bigger until it grew into a tree and it bared one ripe apple,your mouth is watering wanting to bite already. Grabbing it and took a bite,it's delicious when it's fresh,remembering that a long time ago they eat apple for toothbrush. After you eat the apple you throw the core and sighed with relief. A huge vine grabbed you and lifted you on the crown of the tree,you laid down and closed your eye,relaxing peacefully until you heard Smile Dog whined. You looked down at him,he scratched the tree wanting to climb,you giggled as a huge vines grabbed Smile Dog and put him beside you. He cuddled next beside you,making you a bit warm,closing your eye,slowly drifting to sleep but interrupted by a sound.

                 You heard a twig snapped,instantly the whole tree was surrounded by poison ivy,protecting you and Smile Dog,you sat up looking around to see something,when you saw it,you calmed down and the poison ivy digged down the ground and it was nowhere to be found. You looked back at the thing and smiled. Smile Dog jumped and you jumped next,landing perfectly without getting hurt. You looked up with a huge smile painted on your face." Good morning Slenderman,why are you here?" You asked him in a low voice.

"Child, I came here to ask you some questions. Would you like to have a walk while we talk?"

"Uh?.... Sure,sounds fine to me."

         Smile Dog growled and you shushed him to keep quiet for a few minutes. Slenderman gave you a hand and you gladly took it,both of you started walking.

" I heard that your house was burned down last night,do you know why?"

"Um.....I.....I-I'm the one who burned it....."

"Did you do it on purpose?"

"Yes...."

"Why?"

"B-because,(sigh) My dad abuse me and so does my stepmother. Last night when they beat me again,my sanity drained and I set the house on fire..."

        It was silent at the moment as you told him about it,you looked down thinking that maybe he wasn't listening to you,you wanted to cry but you hold it back." Really? I think it was the right decision. If you didn't do it,maybe your still suffering." You looked up,looking at him,with a shock face,slowly smiled and your eye lit up,you jumped and hugged Slenderman all in a sudden,you were confused on your actions and you started you cry. Finally  somebody believes and listen and tells you for once that your right,Slenderman was shocked but he sooner hugged you back.

"T-thank you,thank y-you for being t-the f-first one t-to listen,b-believed and tells me t-that I was r-right. Y-your a g-great friend b-but Smile Dog is g-greater."

"Of course. I have one more question."

"S-sure,what is it?"

"How did you have an ability to controll plants and let them grow without any seeds or sprouts?"
