James' Pov

After climbing out Alina's window a smile appears on my lips as I begin walking down the street. I pull out my phone and the moonlight reflects off the black screen. I quickly unlock my phone and go to Alina's name.

To: Nina😍🙇🏽👰🏾
Hey, I don't have words for how amazing tonite was. Let me take you to dinner tho. Please 🙇🏽

    I quickly press send and put my phone in my pocket. I start to think about what I said to Nina before I left. I told her I loved her, I'm not sure if I lied or not. I want to be in love but I know nothing about her. Something inside me craves her. Any time she's around I need her and any time she not around I'm thinking of needing her. My thoughts are interrupted by my phone buzzing. I pull it out seeing the text from Alina.

Tonite I don't know what happened. Things are complicated and I shouldn't have let it go this far so quickly. I like u let's have dinner but we need to slow down.🤕

    As I read the text I get a sickening nervousness in my stomach. I continue walking home in the suburban neighborhoods. Only 3 more blocks to go I start to text back.

To: Nina😍🙇🏽👰🏾
Well ur right we should move slow but I don't regret sleeping with u.😕 Call me.

A few minutes after it's sent my phone starts singing 'FaceTime' by boosie badazz. I chuckle remembering when Nina changed her ringtone in my phone to this. I press answer and I put the phone to my ear.

"Hey." She mumbles obviously bothered by something.

"What's wrong?" I question furrowing my brows.

"What do you think of me? Be honest." She says, her voice shaky.

"Well I think your amazing and beautiful and... I can't really put it into words. Nina, what's wrong?" I try to avoid telling her how I feel.

"Well I don't want you to think I'm an easy hoe." She whimpers into the phone.

"Did I call or give you any reason to believe that's how I view you?" I question stopping on the corner for a moment then resuming to walking the two more blocks.

"Well, no, but-" she tried to explain but I quickly cut her off.

"We are going to be fine. Alright?" I state reassuring her that I'll be here.

"Alright. Thanks James." She said calming herself.

"Get some sleep ba-"I get cut off by a loud bang on some trash cans.

"What was that?" Alina questioned nervously.

"Um I'm sure it's nothing." I say examining the cans with my eyes. Suddenly I feel a hard blow to the back of my neck causing a ear bleeding screech to escape my lips. I fall to the ground and I hear Alina still on the phone asking what's happening.

"James! Are you okay?!! What's going on!?" She yelled into the phone.

I roll onto my back and see Luke and another boy standing over me. In the same moment I collect another blow to the stomach. Screaming in pain I open and close my eyes. I examine the boys to see them both holding wooden baseball bats.

"Stop!" I shout at them. No one moved, they remained standing over me. I rolled back on my stomach and on all fours trying to push myself off the ground. I could hear Alina yelling but I couldn't pay attention to exactly what she was saying. Suddenly as I get to my feet, the boy with luke struck me over the head with the bat. I felt my body hit the ground, everything went quiet, all I heard was a ringing noise in both ears and the muffled sound of the boys yelling at each other. As I examined them shouting I felt something dripping down my face. Touching it with my fingers I looked to my hand to see a thick redness covering the skin on my fingers. I tried to stand up but I then received yet another blow. This time on my back. Though I could not hear I could feel myself screaming as pain spread from my spine to my toes. I looked up to see luke pushing the boy away. The two continued yelling just as my hearing started to return.

"-he's probably fucking her too! You know--- and she's enj--! Do you like--- ing her fuck him."the boy yells in Luke's face. Luke runs a hand through his hair and mumbles something to the boy. Turning his back to us he sits down leaning against a tree. I look back to the boy only to see to bat flying towards my face. As it struck me my vision went blurry and I felt my skull make an odd moment. The boy then dropped the bat beside me as I lay on my back. He gives my stomach and back a few kicks before picking the bat up again.
    I lye there and collect multiple hits to my back, stomach, legs and arms. I drift away into a dark quiet piece as I am interrupted by a warm presence. I no longer feel the pain of being hit all I can feel is a familiar presence holding my head in their lap. I try to open my eyes and I see Alina. Her mouth saying something but I can't here her I can only see the blur of her beautiful face and her long curly hair brushed behind her ears. As I try to keep my eyes open I see a red light and the very faint sound of a siren yet I barely hear it. I shut my eyes for a moment and I feel the presence of Alina being ripped away from me. Then I feel my body being lifted. I drift into darkness as I begin to see something very bright. I barely have my eyes open and I see a man and woman dressed in blue uniforms moving quickly and obviously yelling trying to work together on me. I let my eyes shut again and i drift into nothingness and I just think of my mother, my sister, Alina....
