The Girl and The Boy

Heat raises into my face

flaming my cheeks bright red.

I said it again

the words that people laugh at

but at my expense.

I did it again.

Look when I shouldn't.

Why can't I stay hidden?

Hidden from my classmates,

hidden from the cute boy,

who stares occasionally; however,

never says anything.

Roland.

Don't think his name.

He's the reason you're in this mess.

He's the reason why everyone's eyes are on you,

staring and laughing.

The sound high pitched,

ringing in your ears,

canceling all other noise.

Roland.

Crap. Why did you look up?

Your blue eyes meeting his bright green eyes.

They usually seemed to sparkle,

holding light and warmth

that always seemed to comfort you.

Now they pity you

filled with sympathy and an apology.

" Roland, she's staring at you. Does the brainiac have a crush?"

I swallow hard as I quickly looked away.

Roland didn't speak,

what would he say?

It would ruin his precious reputation if he stood up for the nerd.

A reputation he worked so hard for

while part of him died inside.

The "It" crowd wasn't what they seemed.

Mean and cruel,

hurting others for the own delight.

They always hurt the girl he liked.

The girl with a sweet smile, and

brown curly hair that she could never tame.

Little did the girl know, Roland cared for her.

He didn't want her to suffer

but he couldn't stop the laughs,

filling the room,

surrounding her like a tidal wave she couldn't escape.

Suddenly, Roland wondered;

Why couldn't she stay hidden?
