Jacques Sadler

"Préparez-vous pour le dîner ce soir, le miel!" My mother yelled at me. (Get ready for dinner, honey)

Groaning out loud, I picked out a suit at the back of the closet and put it on. Spraying on some cologne, I walked down the stairs and presented myself. It was one of those stupid events that my parents have to attend. A classic ball thrown by socialites.

Both of my parents are lawyers, building their very own law firm at 18 years old. Christelle and Andre Sadler were the perfect partners in crime. LITERALLY.
Hasn't lost a case, at all. They moved to New York last year because they wanted change.

Which I had no idea why because we were all doing just fine in our hometown, Milan.

Being their only child, the only thing that has been drilled into my head is,

'LAW LAW LAW LAW LAW'.

At least they were loving about it and didn't torture me.

"Allons-y!" My parents said. (Let's go!)

I grabbed a masquerade mask from the table and walked into the SUV. It was going to be one hell of a long night.

"Thank you all for attending our ball. Cheers to a greater success in Kyoto!" Mum and dad raised their flutes and toasted to the guests.

Tonight's their masquerade ball to celebrate the launch of their new hotel branch in Kyoto, Japan. It was their 20th hotel branch around the globe and I can't help but be proud of their success. Especially, when I know I'll be sustaining that success when the time comes.

An hour into the event, after all the courses of meals were finished, the host for the day announced,

"Good evening, we will be having a series of dances shortly. If you are interested, do join in. Have a great night ahead, everyone!"

I turned around to see my parents busy with their own guests and most of the youth were at the dance floor. So, I got up, put on my mask and walked over. Everyone lined up in rows of two, men on one side, women on the other. Then, music started playing.

I curtsied and let the stranger kiss my hand, smiling. Our feet moved in sync as he spun me back into his body. Right there, a certain memory came swirling back.

I spun around in his arms and spun back in to his embrace, pressed up flush against him.

I peeked slowly and saw him looking at me. I stared into his brown orbs once again and instantly got hypnotised. It was like our first ever meeting... Jacques leaned down towards and I saw a glimpse of his plump pink lips.

His lips got closer.

And closer.

A round of applause brought me back to reality as my partner bowed and moved towards another woman. Smiling tightly, I curtsied and was greeted by another stranger.

"I noticed all of you here are teens! So, let's shake things up a a little! Now, it's 11.30pm. The person you end up with at midnight, shall be your fated partner and you will remove your mask to each other. Let's mixed it up, all of you are too tense!" The host left his spot and rearranged all the partners, placing me right in the middle of the dance floor.

Once again, the music played and I was greeted by another man. Holding out his hand, I placed mine in his and we continued. Is it odd that I wanted someone else to be here with me? Don't get me wrong, the guys I've danced with are good but, this was nothing compared to Etiquette 101 with Jacques.
