Just Like That

Patrick stood watching as his soon to be ex wife was packing her things into a suitcase and getting ready to walk out of his life for good. He didn't understand how his life had ended up like this. Nothing he could say would stop her from walking out and ending their marriage. Patrick knew deep down he didn't want to stop her, they had lost the love they shared with each other a long time ago.

It has been five years since Patrick was fired from the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy. There was speculation as to why he was fired, rumors spread throughout the media, but as rumors go none of them were true. Patrick didn't want to have to explain himself to the world so he just went a long with the story that he wanted to focus on his racing career.

Patrick watched as Jill grabbed her suitcase and made her way downstairs and out the front door. He felt mixed emotions but what surprised him the most was the feeling of relief. Although he was sad that a big chapter of his life was coming to an ending he knew that it had been over long before now, he was finally a free man.

Patrick hadn't felt this relieved in a very long time. He finally had control over his own life again, he loved Jill but she was too controlling. Patrick went along with all of her requests to avoid conflict. Still to this day he wonders why he ever let her convince him to make the biggest mistake of his life.

His thoughts wandered back to her. He hadn't seen or spoken to her in over five years. He agreed with Jill that he wouldn't contact her again for the sake of their marriage. Although Jillian knew that Patrick hadn't cheated on her, she knew that the feelings between the two of them were a threat to her. Patrick decided to completely cut her out of his life that day, he went to Shonda Rhimes and handed in his resignation from the show with the request that she tell people he was fired so  that people wouldn't ask questions, Ellen in particular. Patrick deleted her number from his phone that day and promised himself he would do everything he could to save his marriage for Jillian, he knew if she found out what happened between him and Ellen she would make his life a living hell so out of guilt, he cut the best thing that ever happened to him out of his life.

Patrick avoided media stories about Ellen to try and help himself get over her, she was his best friend and so much more. The feelings he had for Ellen were stronger than he had ever felt before, no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get over her. She has been on his mind everyday for the past five years, when he heard about her split from Chris it hit him harder than he expected. The love of his life was finally free to be with him but he had burned that bridge when he walked out of her life without saying goodbye. Patrick overheard that after her split from Chris she took a year off from filming Grey's Anatomy. Patrick just presumed it was because she lost the love of her life but little did he know how wrong he was.
