Renée jerked her head upwards toward the dragon, expecting to see her red dragon Palin flying out of clouds. Instead, she saw an unknown dragon flying toward her army, its maw full of flame, ready to breathe over her soldiers.

'Get down! It's about to get hot,' Palin warned. A second later, her dragon burst out of clouds above the black dragon, roaring louder than ever, while unleashing a torrent of flame large enough to engulf the opposing dragon.

The black dragon came to an instant halt, turning itself upward to face it's attacker. Palin met it head on, covering it's in green flames yet again. The whole sky erupted in flame when the black dragon unleashed it's own deadly breath.

Palin turned, fleeing into the ever-darkening clouds, drawing the attention of the black dragon with it.

'You're on your own 'Née,' Palin stated painfully as he retreated into the darkness.

Renée ran through the camp with her sword in her hand, slicing at any enemy soldiers who stood in her way. Lightning cracked in the clouds above her head, and ahead of her a huge battle was being waged between her soldiers and the attacking forces.

Lighting a group of enemies on fire with the flick of a wrist, Renée continued on her way through the camp towards where her army was fighting a seemingly impossible battle. She continued hacking and slicing enemies until she reached the back of her army. Instantly she was met by one of her commanders, Tanin.

"Renée, we are being destroyed by their enemy magicians, and the appearance of that dragon demoralized our men. We're fighting a losing battle," he reported to her.

"The battle's not lost until it's over. Let me find those magicians."

Renée uttered a few words, and rose ten feet off of the ground, putting her at a perfect height to take in full view of the battle before her. Her force of two thousand men was up against nearly ten thousand. It was an impossible battle.

She instantly spotted the mages, because they were the only people wearing robes. Concentrating on the closet mage to her army, she began to make to ground around him boil, with a combined might of both their spells.

The ground around the first magician burst into flames, launching a wall of fire six foot into the air, incinerating everyone within a thirty metre radius.

She began to concentrate her efforts on the second magician when he spotted her. He redirected the fireball he had just cast so that it would hit her.

The fireball collided with the side of Renées face, burning the skin and heating up her armor. She fell down to the ground with a resounding thump.

Slowly rising to her feet, Renée drew her sword, hoping to fight her way to the enemy magicians. Battered and broken, she made her way to the front of the army, and began cutting and slashing at every enemy to get to close to her.

She began accumulating a number of cuts and bruises, but her magic stopped majority of the dangerous blows.

Hacking her way through the never ending tide of enemies, she got to the first magician. He took one look at her, and instantly pulled out the sword he had with him.

'Since when did normal magicians get trained to use a sword?' Renée thought, but she didn't plan on staying around to ask for an answer. She began moving toward the mage, sword raised ready for combat.

As Renée got close the magician, he threw his sword against the ground and slowly uttered the words, "Kill me."

Renée took another step toward the magician and leveled the sword with his head.

She swung the sword, slicing the head of the mage clean off his shoulders. As soon a his head hit the ground, Renée was thrown backwards, as was every other person within one hundred meters. A large explosion soon followed.

Renée stood up, a large ringing sounding through her ears. She spun around, surveying the damage, and realized that the two armies were all dead completely.

'My magic must have saved me,' she thought to herself.

'Renée! Get ready! We don't have long. We need to go,' Palin said to her, his voice thick with fear.

The giant red dragon landed on the ground, and Renée quickly got on top of him. With a flap of his two giant wings, Palin left the ground. He began flapping his wings with an ever increasing speed.

'Palin, what's going on here?!' Renée questioned furiously.

'Née... I'm not alone. That black dragon had three smaller friends. I killed one of them, but I got pretty injured in the fight, and the others are chasing me. I don't know how much further I'm going to be able to go.'

At that instant, a loud roar was heard behind, followed by two softer roars. Renée turned her head just in time to see the three black dragons fly out of the smoke left from the exploding magician, and began gaining speed rapidly toward Palin.

"Palin!" Renée squealed aloud. She turned again to face the incoming dragons, and focussed all her might into stopping the smaller of the three dragons. Shutting her eyes, she whispered words to herself, concentrating all her thoughts on the dragon.

A large group of clouds moved over the dragons flight path, and when they passed underneath them, a huge bolt of lightning struck the smallest dragon. With a whimper, the dragon fell from the sky, into the forest below, creating a large plume of dust and wood chips to rise up into the sky, which Renée redirected at the second small dragon, killing it instantly.

Palin got half way through congratulating her, when she slumped over, past out.

'Née! Renée! Wake up Renée!' Palin screamed at her mentally.

When she didn't wake, Palin began flapping his wings harder and faster than ever before, in an effort to escape the gigantic black dragon chasing him and his rider.
