Ali POV

Today's moms funeral. Everyone flew back to Rosewood to say goodbye. The only time my family ever came together was for funerals, sad... right? Most of my moms' friends and family flew home but I could tell a few were missing, like grandma. Spencer, Aria, Hanna, Jason, and relatives I barely knew were coming. Em, and I were in a nice hotel room, courtesy of my dad. The room was quiet which I hated but Em and I still had a lot of unresolved problems that we had to sort through, and now wasn't really the time to talk through them. Despite our problems and Emily sleeping on the couch for so long, she still meant everything to me. There wasn't anything in this world I wouldn't do for her.

I checked my phone, 10 minutes until it was time to go and say goodbye to my mother.

"Al, how are you doing?" Emily's sweet voice filled the silence of the room.

"I'm alright..."

She stood up, walking towards me, then opening her arms. "Hug?" She asked quietly

I nodded stepping toward her and wrapping her arms around me.

"I'm sorry, Ali."

"Em, you don't have to keep apologizing."

"Then- never mind." She stopped mid sentence probably realizing now wasn't the right time.

"I love you." I said quietly into her chest.

She kissed my head and told me that she loved me too.

The ride to her funeral was peaceful. My heart ached that my relationship with my mother ended on bad terms, but I couldn't change that now... she was dead.

I glanced at the familiar place. Everything seemed the same as when we had all left, nothing changed. The same flowers planted in the same places, the same feelings I had when I lived here, miserable. Rosewood was really a small insignificant place and that's all it will ever be to me.

I walked into the funeral home hand-in-hand with Emily which earned some looks from family members I haven't seen since I was a little girl.

Emily was rubbing the back of my hand with her thumb which I had learned was a nervous habit of hers.

I blew out a puff of air and began walking towards Spencer, Aria, and Hanna. We all exchanged hugs and Hanna offered me a small flask she had in her purse which I respectfully declined.

"I miss you guys" Spencer said with a small smile

"It's been too long" Emily added

The funeral had come and gone. Emily, Ali, Spencer, Aria, and Hanna all met at the hotel bar for drinks. Everyone was a little tipsy except for Emily, she had more than enough to drink during her teenage years so as an adult she kept her drinking to a bare minimum. Instead, she made casual conversation with the people around her.

Emily POV

I stuck with a glass of water while the girls downed shots of vodka. Luckily it was happy hour so they weren't the only drunk people dancing to classical music. Ali stopped dancing every couple of minutes to kiss my cheek, steal a sip of my water and someone's soda. Luckily they were amused too.

After about 2 more shots they were stumbling everywhere and I decided enough was enough.

"Guys, how about we go back to our rooms?" I said and somehow they all nodded back

They stumbled their way to the elevator then down the hall to their room.

"Em, come here!" Hanna yelled down the hall. Spencer shushed her before walking past her and into the room.

I made my way down the hall, Ali following closely behind. Hanna motioned me to follow her to her bed and I did.

"Em, would you tuck me in?" she whispered, I sighed and nodded

She jumped under the covers with her clothes still on. I pulled up the covers and said goodnight. She giggled and kissed my cheek, the funny thing is Ali was standing in the doorway with her arms crossed.

"Hey, mine!" She slurred while pulling my arm, then pulling me out of the room.

"Love you, Emmy!!!" Hanna yelled before the door slammed shut.

"No, I love Emily" Ali murmured to no one in particular.

We went to our room and as soon as the door opened Ali ran in and jumped onto the bed.

"Come on Al lets get you ready for bed." I said pulling her upright

I grabbed her pajamas from the suitcase and tried to hand them to her. Ali made no move to grab them, so I motioned for her to stand up.

She stood up and carefully I unzipped her dress.

"Like what you see?" She teased turning around to face me

"Very much, but you're drunk so..."

Some time had passed before we had settled in bed, Ali was laying on my chest listening to my heart like she usually did when we slept in the same bed and playing with the strings on my sweatshirt.

"Em?"

"Yeah?" I replied looking away from my phone and to her. She was obviously still drunk.

"You know I love you right?"

"Yes, I love you too"

"I'm going to marry you someday, okay?"

"Okay Al"

"Like I love you more than anything, I would jump into a pit of spiders just to make you happy, I don't know why that would make you happy but that's beside the point." She continued

I sat up and kissed her head "I love you and I would love to listen to you talk all night but we should probably go to sleep now."

She nodded and I laid back down

"Goodnight Em."

"Goodnight Ali."
