Elizabeth's POV

I pass through my day as usual. Not.

Today is my birthday. But its also the two year anniversary of my little brothers death.

Morbid, I know.

I miss him so much. Every day of my birth-month he'd plant a big kiss on my cheek after breakfast. He'd give me these kisses at random points of the year but I always thought they'd last forever.

The last kiss I got from him was in the morning, two years ago.

He planted one on my cheek with the most strength he could muster up.

And then they wheeled him into surgery.

He'd developed a tumor earlier that year and even though we caught it early, his immune system was always so weak.

My brother was born with Downs Syndrome. I met Russell's family in a program where you're paired up with another family with a family member with the same syndrome. It's a support program and its the only thing that got me by last year.

I get a ride home from Jackson, considering his house I only two blocks away.

This year we moved closer to our support family in hopes of me not getting into anymore fights.

*knock* *knock*

I look up from my bed to see my parents.

"Honey, we're going to leave first." My mom informs me.

They're going to visit Jacob's grave.

"Lock the doors before you go to the Walters'." My father tells me.

They leave in a hurry, mumbling about traffic and things like that.

I'm going to the Walters' house at 7 for dinner so for now I finish up on calculus homework, sketch for a bit and listen to music. At 5:42 I take a shower and blow dry my hair into its naturally perfect waves.

I know I'm attractive, but do you really expect me to even begin dating when I've been grieving for over a year?

I choose a yellow sundress and some brown gladiator sandals for my outfit.

After putting on some light make-up and grabbing my purse and phone I rush out the door, locking it of course, and heading straight to the Walters'.

------------------------------------------

When I arrive Jackson is outside waiting for me.

My heart immediately starts racing but I hurry to calm it down.

"Aren't you supposed to be inside?" I ask him coolly.

Keep calm Lizzie! I scold myself.

"I was kind of waiting for you." He looks down at the ground.

Oh my gawd! Please tell me this is true. Please tell me he's about to ask me out.

"Why?" I ask innocently.

"Because......" As I await his answer I here a soft 'now'.

Suddenly, I'm surrounded by my family and the Walters's family.

"Surprise!" They exclaim.

I fake a smile for Russell and my parents but inside I'm a little sad that it didn't end the way I wanted it to.

Russell comes up and gives me a hug.

"Were y-you surprised?" He asks me, his signature smile planted on his face.

"I totally was. What's this? I thought we weren't celebrating this year?" I ask them confused.

My mom run up and replaces Russell.

"How could I not throw you a birthday party? You're my baby girl and you deserve it." She leans back only to swoop in for a kiss on the cheek.

"Aw mom, stop with the kisses!" I beg her as I try to force her returning lips away from my face.

We eventually go inside for birthday cake and presents. Ms. Walters made my favorite, strawberry filled strawberry cake. Russell got me a giant stuffed bear and Jackson gave me a pair of beautiful earrings with a blue gemstone which earned him a very fatherly look from my dad.

After playing a couple board games we went back home, my father promising that my present would be given to me when we arrived home.

I step out of the car in a rush and hurry to the door.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry!" I whine at them.

Mom and dad are taking their time and I gotta admit that I'm more than eager to see my present.

"Honey, you're present isn't inside." My fathers voice snaps me out of my trance and I turn to him utterly confused.

"Then where is it ?" I ask stupidly.

I say that I asked stupidly because not ten feet away is a brand new Ducati with a big red bow.

"Aieeeeee!!!!" I scream.

I run towards my parents and hug them tightly, practically jumping up and down.

"Thank you, Thank you, thank you!" I chant.

I finally get my own motorcycle! No more bumming rides off of Jackson, even though I love holding on to him, but you know what I mean!

"Wahoo!" I cheer.

"We're glad you like it. The dealer said it was a super bike? something 8-9-9?"

He seems confused but I'm sure as hell not.

A super bike 899? Am I dreaming? Wait a second, I'm in heaven aren't I? No way this is real. Elizabeth wake up.

I slap myself a couple of times.

"It's real, honey." My mom laughs.

Oh I spoke out loud again, didn't I?

"Yup." my father agrees.

Crap. I gotta stop that.

"Yeah you do." My mom chimes in.

We all laugh for a bit and then, after carefully locking my bike in the garage, we head inside and go to sleep.
