oliver

i frowned at the thought of all the homework i had as i pushed open the library doors. i obviously wasn't going to do it, ain't nobody got time for that. the only reason i was even here was because my mom was the librarian. she insisted on driving me home once she could leave.

my eyes scanned across the room and the only person i saw was someone i haven't seen before. she had light brown hair that shined even in the dull lighting. she looked up at me and her eyes were a gentle blue color. i looked away and walked to a table, setting my backpack down on the table. i pulled out a textbook and decided to at least look like i was doing work.

i looked at the mystery girl again and watched her as she wrote something down. she was wearing legging and a simple white-shirt that was loose on her slim figure. i looked back down at my own textbook for a minute, my thoughts on anything but the geometry in front of me. i finally sighed and stood up, heading toward my mom.

"hey oliver, how are you sweetie?" she asked me while rearranging the books on the shelf.
i didn't answer at first and just watched as she pulled a book about benjamin franklin out and set it to the side.

"i'm good. say uh, mom, do you know who that girl is?" i asked while nodding toward her. the mystery girl was still bent over her work and i watched as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.

"oh her? she's a regular here. i think she's here almost everyday actually. why?" she asked and finally looked at me. "oh does my little oliver have a crush?" she teased.

my cheeks turned red as i shook my head quickly. "n-no, i was just curious."

"mhm, anyway it's almost time to close. go on and tell her that." my mom told me and winked before stalking off with a stack of books in her hand.

i frowned at my mom's request and turned toward the girl. closing time was in less than five minutes. if i was going to do it, i had to do it now. i slowly walked toward her, talking long steps.

"hey." i said as i reached her. startled, she looked up and gave me a gentle smile. "hi." she responded, confused as to why i was here.

"the library is about to close." i told her, nodding toward the clock. her eyes landed on the clock and her eyes widened.

"oh! uh yeah sorry. my mom's going to be pissed so uh bye." she quietly said before closing her textbook and walking off.
