3. The Explanation

Valkyrie POV

After making Fletch retrieve my phone from the mud I called Skullduggery. " Detective Pleasant" He answered, "Hey Skully" I sang cheerfully,

"Val that is awful, where did that come from?" I don't know why I was so cheerful today; it must just be a generally cheerful day. "Meh, whatever, just rang to say that I have Nefaraine Serpine lying at my feet unconscious."

"Don't you whatever m-wait what?" He spluttered.

" Yeah, that's what I thought when I knocked him out, but its defiantly him alright. Oh, and I may have done a teeny bit of magic at the nightclub" I said guiltily.

"How teeny?" He replied sternly.

"Um, noticeable I'd say, but back to Serpine, do you know he was chatting up my sister in a night club, well more like squeezing answers about me out of her but same thing really, I didn't really appriaciate that."

"I can imagine" He sighed.

" So are you busy? actually I doughty that, so where are you? I'll send Fletch round."

" Oh you will, will you?" interjected Fletch

"Yes he will" I replied through the phone.

"I'm at home Val, at home bored outta my mind because my side kick's got bored of me and is running round with her boyfriend defeating all the bad guys and leaving me behind." He said sulkily.

" Aww is somebody jealous, honestly the way you behave you would think you were some love-struck teenager not an over 100 year old skeleton who fought in a war and has defeated like all the bad guys in the world, and nearly died about 20 times."

"Whatever. He replied grumpily." Just send him over." Fletch sighed and vanished.

"What. The. Hell." Groaned Alice sitting up. She looked over at me, "you just pushed at the air, and he was gone, just, like that" She was looking up at me with confusion in her eyes, I couldn't lie to my baby sister.

A small pop announced the presence of Skulduggery and Fletch along with a small squeak form Alice. "Where did you come from" she stuttered pointing a shaky finger at the two of them.

Skullduggery, completely ignoring Alice, went straight over to serpine and knelt down by him. "Yep defiantly him alright." He turned to me and Alice screamed "Oh My God, its a skeleton" and promptly fainted again.

"Ahh" Said Skullduggery looking down at her, "That could be a problem."

Three hours later and we were sat in Skulduggery's lounge, Serpine chained to the chairl eg still unconcious and Alice sat on the sofa with a steaming cup of coffee in her hands.

"So let me get this straight" She began, brows furrowed. "You" She pointed at me "Run around with him" She pointed at Skullduggery " With the help of him" She pointed at Fletch "Saving the world, killing evil sorcerers, and stopping nasty things from taking over the world, by using some fairy magic stuff."

"It's not some silly fairy magic Alice, this is huge, There are sorcerers all over the world, there are loads of different types of magic too, see Fletch is a teleported he can go anywhere as long as he's been there before on foot. And Skullduggery and me we're elementals, we control earth, fire, air and water, like what you saw me do earlier, that was me pushing the air around Serpine and it drove him backwards.

Everyone's eyes were on Alice as she just sat there staring into nothing.

"Oh, and you know my black ring, the one you ate when you were a baby?" She nodded slowly. "Well, that can control darkness, it feeds off negative energy like death and can control shadows."

Alice was still just sat there staring.

Then suddenly she burst out laughing.
