After Layla and I made our cake and ate some of it, we went to her room and watched television.

"You know, we should try to get boyfriends this year. I mean, it would be more fun to have dates for the homecoming dance this year," Layla said.

When she said this I smiled but on the inside I was really groaning. Me? Ava Dye? Having a boyfriend? Only in a parallel universe. I had never had a boyfriend; let alone, I had never been ask out. The way Layla was talking, sounds like we could just snap our fingers and instantly get ourselves a guy. Well she probably could, but definitely not me.

"Sound great in theory, but Layla, guys at our school don't even know I exist," I say.

"That's okay because I know some guys that have a lot in common with you, I could totally set you up," she smiled.

"Good luck with that," I laughed while rolling my eyes because my best friend can be so ridiculous sometimes.

----------------------------------------------
The next morning at school I was getting a book out of my locker and I accidentally dropped one of my textbooks on the floor. While I was picking up my book I heard my locker slam close.

"You're so clumsy, you loser," someone said.

I looked up, just to see Chelsie Hart, also known as the Queen Bee of the school. Just great. Chelsie loves to pick on me for some reason, and what is even worse is that she is Brittany's best friend. So I see Chelsie a lot. The girl is so two faced, she is only nice to me when Brittany is around; and of course Brittany doesn't believe me when I tell her that Chelsie is deliberately trying to ruin my life. Chelsie is so cruel, but as a perfect angelic face so she gets away with a lot of things.

"Don't you have something better to do than to bother me?" I ask in annoyance.

"Hmm.. let me think. No," she grinned. An evil one of course. "Why do you dress like that? Do you shop at Walmart or something? You would probably have more friends if you dressed better," Chelsie said in a disgusted tone.

I can't believe she I just criticized what I was wearing. I was literally wearing a hoodie with skinny jeans. Lots of people wear that. And heck yeah I shopped at Walmart, believe it or not they actually have pretty fashionable stuff. Plus if people wanted to be friends with me because of the way I dress than they are just superficial and fake like Chelsie.

Of course I did all this thinking in my head and remained silent.

"Well I have to get the fashion design class, see ya later," Chelsie said and left.

After that, I got my books and went to English class. For me English was one of those classes where I had no friends and I never said a single word.

"Okay class, we will be during a research project and I will assign your partners. Now I did this on a random generator so don't you go complaining about your partner," Ms. Dove said.

Great a project with partners. I quickly glance around the class. Yep, there was no one who I would enjoy working with here.

She started calling out names.
"Ava Dye and Jake Brooks," she said.

Jake Brooks?! Oh my gosh. He is like the bad boy of the school. He is dangerous. Not that I believe all rumors I hear, but I heard he has kill someone before. He is always getting into fights and always late to class. Plus, I doubt he would do any of the work for our project.

"Nooooo!" I thought I said in my head until the whole class became silent and looked at me in amusement.

"Is there a problem Ava?" Ms.Dove asked.

Everyone in the class was just staring at me. I'm sure my face was redder than Rudolph's nose.

"No ma'am. Sorry," I said awkwardly fast and looked down at my desk.

She continued saying names. I glanced at Jake, who was looking at me with a grin on his face.

I couldn't tell if it was a normal grin or I'm-going-to-kill-you grin. Anyways, I quickly turned around and looked down again.
