Chapter 4
It was a Sunday evening. Today Avalon was cleared to go home. But home was not where she was headed. Two days ago, when she got the okay to leave on Sunday, she was visited by three mutants afterwards. Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, and Jean Grey. They told her about Professor Xavier, and his school for mutants. Avalon and her mother were unsure of the idea, but after critical thinking of what's best for her, they both reluctantly agreed that it was best for Avalon to attend the boarding school. As of now, there are not many students attending, but they have been keeping an eye out for any new mutants across the country, and Avalon was their first find in almost a year.
After all that has happened to Avalon, it's just been too much. Mentally and physically. Thankfully she'll get to have a lot of sleep during the plane ride to New York.
Before they got onto the plane, Avalon and her mother said goodbye. Avalon hugged her mom, and her mom started to bawl, and squeeze Avalon like their lives depended on it.
"Mom. Please let go... mom stop!" She tried to push her mom off. "You're embarrassing me." She whispered.
"Sorry sweetie. Oh I'm going to miss you so much!" then she leaned in and gave her rebellious daughter one last hug and a bunch of kisses on he cheek and forehead. Then with tears filling her eyes, she reluctantly let go, and handed Avalon's bags to her.
Avalon grabbed her bags. She turned to get on the plane before her mom could stop her again. "Thanks mom. I'll miss you too. I'll call and text you."
"And FaceTime!" Her mother yelled back.
"Bye mom." She said last second over her shoulder. Then the door to the plane closed.
"I love you!!!"
Avalon rolled her eyes, but grinned. She sat down in a seat next to a window. She looked at her mother, waving frantically, and she gave her the "I love you" in sign language. Her moms's face became a little brighter at her daughters last gesture, and did the sign back to her, as the plane started to move forward. Avalon turned and buckled her seatbelt then looked at Scott and Ororo flying the plane. Her mom was hesitant of letting Avalon go with them and almost changed her mind, but they proved to her they were experienced and licensed.
Then Jean appeared from somewhere behind Avalon and she smiled casually, "Mind if I sit here?"
"Ummm.... no. Go ahead." Avalon thought that Jean was nice, but she didn't care for her much. Avalon didn't really want to talk to her, but she didn't feel really tired either, so she didn't want to sleep.
"Ummm, what kind of a plane is this?" The plane was big, but not the usual size for a plane, and it only had seats to carry up to about fifteen people.
"It's a jet. We call it the X-Jet."
"Oh... why do you call it that?"
"Because we call ourselves the X-Men."
"What do you mean?"
"The name is after Xavier."
"Okay, but what do you do to be called, 'X-Men'?"
"Don't worry about that. It's a long story and Charles will explain it to you."
The rest of the ride for about twenty minutes, was full of awkward silence until they started to ask her random questions of whatever she might be interested in. Then they started to tell brief stories of their lives and mutant experiences.
Apparently, Jean is the Professors first student from when she was like nine. The two are like best friends and connect really well because of their telepathy. But her powers are so strong, that she still does not have complete control over them all of the time.
