My name is Averie Williams, I am seventeen years old and this is my story on how I achieved my lifetime dream.

I’ve been told that I am a good singer; people have been telling me ever since I can remember. My parents have been always encouraging me to go after my dream of being a professional singer. Unfortunately, my parents passed away six months ago in a car accident before they could see me achieve my dream. Right now I live in a foster care home, and I’m going to audition for the X Factor for two reasons, to go after my goals and to get away from my foster care family. They have taken me in when I needed somebody, my parents were my only remaining family, but lately I have been feeling unwanted and neglected by them.

Today was the day of my audition; to no surprise my family did not want to come. Instead I went alone.

It was now my turn to go out on stage and audition.

My whole body was shaking from nerves; there was a boy who was up right after me who came up to me and wished me luck. His Irish accent just made me melt. I smiled and introduced myself; I then learned his name was Niall. The host came and ushered me on stage. I put on a huge smile and walked out to face the judges. I consider myself pretty average; I have blue eyes, blonde wavy hair that reaches my lower back, and I was only 5’2”.  I chose to wear my favorite floral dress that reaches just above my knee, with black gladiator sandals.

I stopped in the center of the stage; Simon was the first to greet me.

“Hello, what is your name?”

“Averie” I replied.

“Well, Averie who came with you today?” Simon asked.

“No one, I came by myself.”

“Your parents didn’t come?”

“Oh, no my parents died six months ago in a car accident by a drunk driver.”

I looked at Simon, Nicole, and Louis and could see looks of sympathy.

“I am terribly sorry.” Simon continued, “What are you going to sing for us?”

“Gravity by Sara Bareilles.”

He nodded for me to start singing.

Something always brings me back to you

It never takes too long

No matter what I say or do

I still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone

You hold me without touch

You keep me without your hand

I never wanted anything so much

Than to drown in your love and not feel your rain

Simon stopped me and when I looked over at Nicole, she had tears in her eyes; I figured that was a good thing. Simon was the first to speak:

“Averie, I think that your voice is absolutely brilliant.”

I was speechless; Simon thought that my voice was brilliant?

“Yeah, Averie you are just adorable and your voice with that song just made me so emotional. I wish Simon didn’t stop you, but at the same time I’m glad he did or I’m sure I would be full on crying.” Nicole said interrupting my thoughts.

Louis was the last to speak, “Averie, most kids your age don’t have their voices matured enough to sound good.”

I got nervous, was I not good enough for him?

Louis continued, “But you are the exception.”

I let out a relieved breath.

“Alright, let’s vote. It’s a yes from me.” Simon said.

“It’s a yes from me.” Nicole said.

“And it’s a yes from me.” Said Louis.

Oh my god, I did it.

“Thank you so much.” That was all I could get out I was still in shock. I walked off stage and Niall, the boy I met earlier, gave me hug and whispered congrats. I thanked him and told him I would watch his performance; he smiled and walked on stage.

Niall had made it through and I was in love with his voice, it was so sweet and calming. When he walked off I gave him a hug and told him congrats. When I started to walk away he shouted, “Wait!”

I stopped and turned around. When he caught up to me he said, “Do you want to come with my family and me and celebrate?”

I looked back at his family who was smiling and nodding for me to come.

“Sure.” He smiled huge; his smile was so cute it made me smile. We went to a pizza parlor that was close by. Niall and I spent the whole time just talking and having fun. I told him how I was originally from Bradford, but moved here to Ireland to my foster family. I told him everything; I trusted Niall. He told me his life story and I heard hilarious stories about him from his family. He gave me his number and told me to call him or text him if there was anything I needed. They dropped me off and I went straight to my room, my family could care less if I got through or not. There was one thought in my head before I fell asleep: best day ever.
