Nightmares (A Naruto Fanfiction)

"Ka... Ka... Shi..."

I gasped as I woke, panting as I looked down at my hands. A flash of red. I stumbled to the sink and scrubbed.

"It won't disappear-!" I choked out, tears starting to stream down from my eyes. Breathing shakily I clutched my right hand with my left to my chest and fell to my knees, gasping for air. I sobbed silently in guilt, fear and frustration as I leaned back onto one of the kitchen cupboards.

I hugged my knees underneath the moonlight, gripping my elbows.

"Kakashi sensei...?"

I whipped my head up to see Naruto and froze.

Naruto POV

I gasped as I woke up, throwing my blanket off. Sweat covering my brow I looked over at Sasuke in bandages as I recalled the moment he shielded me from the rain of senbon. The nightmare rolled on to show Iruka dying, then to the constant disgust on the villagers faces.

"Monster."

"He should just die."

"Get away from us!"

"It won't disappear-!" a voice sobbed from the kitchen. Kakashi Sensei...?

I tiptoed to the kitchen while wiping my tears away. Underneath the moonlight leaning against the cupboards was my usually aloof joking dirty minded sensei, sobbing, his shoulders shaking.

"Kakashi sensei...?"

I stared at my sensei as he looked up. So... Vulnerable, weak, sad, everything he wasn't in public. The moonlight reflected off his face revealing tears soaking his mask. He looked down guiltily.

"Sorry Naruto... Did I accidently wake you up?"

"Nah sensei... Just a nightmare."

He looked up again in surprise and worry. I sighed and sat next to him, slumping against the cupboards behind us.

"... We really have sucky lives huh." he mused, chuckling an empty low rumble.

"Yea." a voice came from the doorway.

We both looked up to see Sasuke standing there, a rare sad smile on his face.

"... Nightmare too?" I asked.

He nodded silently and sat on the other side of Kakashi.

"... Wanna go lie on the roof?" Kakashi asked after a minute of comfortable silence, "That's what I always do after nightmares... Just watch the stars peacefully till the sun rises."

"... Yea. That sounds nice." I agreed.

3rd person POV

The three of them lay on the roof, looking silently at the stars. The wind played with their hair softly and they closed their eyes, peace finally calming their troubled souls.

And they gave into the darkness.

In the Morning

"Mo! Where are they-?" Sakura's eyes widened as she took in the scene before her. Kakashi lay flat on his back, Naruto and Sasuke by his side, snuggled against him. She sighed and smiled cheekily.

"Wake up!" she cheered, ruffling all their heads roughly.

"Ack-! Sakura?!"

"Ma, ma, Sakura don't be so rough!"

"Hn-!"

She laughed and soon Naruto joined her, Sasuke smirking. Kakashi looked on silently and chuckled.

'I don't think I hate you guys anymore...".
