Balloons were thrown everywhere, treated as balls. Some very "mature" people in my class threw them at each other laughing. I sat there just looking at them amused. "Oh come on! We have to use these balloons to decorate them, not use them as stupid balls!" My friend Fiona said. I snorted. These idiots would never quit playing. That's why our class never won any award for "The Most Beautifully Decorated Class". We have no order. That's why I gave up getting better a few years ago. Seeing my class now, I don't regret my decision.
A girl filled a balloon with air, then let it fly with that ridiculously funny noise. I laughed again. My friend Danielle glared at me," Diane, you spoiled brat, come help me."
Rolling my eyes, I got up and helped my sassy friend. My other friend, Anna, was still playing with the balloons. But I didn't stop her; I have enough tantrums from my younger siblings back home.
After 20 minutes, Dani and I hung balloons all over the four walls of our dull, beige classroom. We stared at it impressed, the balloons finally giving our walls some color.
Dani and I started messing around, and we got a hold of a pin -oh the horror-. Dani started pinching the others and them screaming like little girls. I was laughing loudly just like Dani. Fiona told the teacher, and eventually she told us to stop or she'd send us to the vice principal's office for a lecture on who knows what. Dani didn't bother to listen.
We then started hitting the balloons which made them scream even louder. Eventually, my friend May came and took the pin from us and hid it, this ending our little game. Which also made us to go back to work.
***********
The bell rang and we all ran to the cafeteria. It's not that we're hungry, but the fact that we can get out of that pool of balloons, ribbons, and cardboard paper seemed appealing to us.We share a tight bond that I even can't imagine a day without them. I don't even know how or why. We were just as if thrown in a pit together, and figured out that the only way out was together. I mean, most of our arguments and bickering these days are about who is the leader of our group.
Anna and I knew each other since preschool. We weren't friends, and I know that 80% of my insecurities are because of her. I don't blame her though. She can be annoying when she wants to be, but she will always be that curly haired freckled face cutie who has a shoulder to cry on.
Danielle and I became very close without even noticing. Even though our parents had a fight not so long ago, we acted like nothing happened. Maybe it's because we're both aware of what happened that made us support and help each other even more. We both share an awesome sense of humor. That's why when I'm sad, the reason I laugh is Danielle and her funny comebacks.
May is that amazing friend who is a perfect role model for us. I think the deepest bond for me is with her. We share our deep -very deep- thoughts to each other, and make a joke of something out of nowhere. Once a joke is said, the others never hear the end of it. She also sees me as a safe place for her secrets, which is something I'm proud of.
We met Fiona two years ago, and because of her witty attitude, she matched with us. She always teases May just like Dani, yet May just teases her back with the same amount of cheesiness. Fiona is judged a lot because of her rich parents. When she found that crazy people existed, she made sure they'd never leave her. We never did.
The rest people in my class come and go, so we don't really know them. Besides, everyone in the school finds us odd, and I don't know why. We are just normal people. Maybe even more normal than normal people.
"So, how's Ollie doing?" Fiona asked Dani during lunch. Dani laughed nervously and pulled out her tongue at her. To be honest, I had a fling- or two- for Oliver myself, but when I found out that Dani likes him, I quickly forgot him. Dani dated clowns and arrogant guys, and for the first time she felt passionate about him, so I thought he looked cuter with her anyway, so I gave up on him.
"You know what? Let's go back to our class, we'll have fun there more than here." May said. We five got up gracefully may I say, and when we were out of sight, we ran like there's no tomorrow. I'm glad I didn't drop my food. Anna dropped her sandwich and nobody is willing to share.
We sat down in a circle in the middle of the classroom, surrounded by balloons, glue guns, ribbons, and glitter. A lot of glitter. "Ooh,glitter! Remember when Dani put glitter in Hanna's water bottle? It was hilarious, she said she will never drink water again!" Anna said. We all laughed at this memory.
Just like that, each one of us was sharing a beloved memory, making the others laugh, or basically reliving them. "You know guys, I think these decorations are for us. They don't represent anything more than us." I said.
"What do you mean?" May said. "I mean, look at us. Here sitting between these decorations, remembering our pranks and jokes together. What other reason do we need to celebrate this day and be happy?" I said.
"Yeah! Let's make it our special anniversary!" Anna said enthusiastically. We all stared at her. Ahh I feel the roll of my eyes coming. Brace yourselves, sisters. "That's a very stupid idea." Dani said. "Yeah I know. " Anna replied, shrugging.
"Hey wait! I remembered a joke! Once there was a drunk man and he wanted to burp...." I started. That joke speaks to us every time. It never fails to make us roll on the floor trying to stop ourselves from peeing while our tears flow.
After lunch, the whole class came back," okay peasants! This class is going to win an award this year! So work until I tell you to stop." Fiona called. "Why's this change of heart so suddenly?" A girl asked.
"Let's just say the fairy of memories reminded us that we are celebrating an anniversary today. " Dani said and winked at Anna. We all smirked.
I was messing around with Dani, as usual, until May joined us. As we were throwing an ornament across the classroom, it hit a wall and bounced back with a strong force. We shrieked and ducked our heads, hoping it doesn't hit us.
Alas! Even though it didn't hit us, it hit our teacher's personal computer. That thing is basically her whole work. If she loses it, she loses her work. I gulped. Fiona and Anna patted our backs sympathetically saying," We're all in this together guys."
What should we do? We'll definitely be suspended. With a stern look on our faces, we all knew what we're going to do. Dani got the smashed laptop, and with a swift move, threw it in the trash can.
The whole class was silent now, making me uncomfortable. "Let's go back decorating!" I said loudly. Suddenly, everyone went back to what he or she was doing.
The five of us formed a circle, as May said," Is this it? Did we choose the right choice?". With a very wide smile, Dani said," Yeah, that'll do. We're on a study hiatus, after all."
We all nodded.Oh joy.
