Chapter Three: What are the Odds?
*REALLY IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE: LUX BLACKWATER IS NOW LYCAON BLACKWATER*
“Well anyway, this is Swift.” Jordan reintroduced to me. He grabbed my hand and started heading toward the house. “I need to go inside and talk to my sister so let's go in before it gets dark.”
He walked up the steps of the house and pushed open the doors, leaving me to close them behind me.
He said something but I didn't hear him over the sound of my astonishment. The house was beautiful. The floor was a mix between smooth red and black tiles in different patterns. To my left, was a long beautiful acacia staircase wrapping around the walls. The windows next to the stairs were just as beautiful, a mix between stained glass and a mosaic. Directly in front of me was a long corridor and at the end of it, a window. In the parlor itself, there was a very pretty chandelier, a grandfather clock which actually worked, and an Egyptian Sarcophagus which was weird but it was unique.
“LYCAON!” I heard Jordan yelling which snapped me out of my reverie. I looked to him, confusion on my face.
“Yes?!?” I half yelled back.
“ Did you hear what I said?” he asked more calmly, taken aback by my outburst.
“No I didn't” I sighed apologizing. “I'm sorry I was just distracted looking at the rest of the house.”
He looked surprised in a way but continued. “I said, no one is home right now so we won't be bothered. Except for Cierra.” he repeated.I looked around but didn't see anyone anywhere and there wasn't any sign of life. “How do you know she's here?”
He pointed to the wall on the second floor above the stairs. “See that moose head on the wall with the antlers?” I nodded. “When she's home alone she always turns the right antler upside down and when Dunstan comes home, he always turns it right side up”
“Dunstan” I asked having no idea who that was.
He let out a small chuckle “ He's the head of the house you can say. You'll see soon enough.”He started walking from the parlor and down the hallway. I followed him not sure where we were going yet. He stopped at a room and he walked right in. It was a medium sized room with two beds on opposite sides of the room and enough walking space in between. He put his black messenger bag on his bed and he took off his sweater as well. He was wearing a white and gray long sleeve under it and I noticed he had a scar on his neck which I took note of to ask him about later. On his side of the room it was decorated with clothes, posters, and papers strewn about while his desk was perfectly neat. On the other side of the room, it was all blank. There were no signs of any life that anyone had stepped there and it was just empty. After he put everything down, he walked out the room with me on his heels.
He went back out to the parlor and walked up the stairs, past the messed-with moose head. We got to the second floor and reached a fork in the hallway. To the left was an office of sorts and to the right was another set of double doors.
He stopped before opening the double doors and turned to me. “Don't go in the office behind us, that's Dunstan’s office and he hates when people go in there.” I nodded in understanding. “ Now here is the girls rooms of the house and downstairs was the boys rooms.” I nodded again and he went through the doors.
The hallway was just a normal hallway but with many more doors than the boys hall leading me to believe that there are many more girls than boys. We stopped at the door closest to the double doors and Jordan knocked.
“Cierra?” he knocked again. “Open up Cierra!”. The door opened revealing a teenage girl about the same size and age as Jordan. She had dark brown hair but with highlights and streaks of purple and blue along with the same sea green eyes. She was still in her pyjamas and she had one headphone in her ear the other out.
“May I help you Jordan?” She answered to him clearly annoyed. She spotted me standing behind Jordan. “Who's your friend?” She asked still checking me out.
I was about to answer when Jordan spoke first,
“ His name is Lycaon.” he answered hurriedly.“Listen, have you seen Bethany or Isaac at all today?”
“ I only saw them this morning when Vivian made us breakfast but after that, I haven't stepped out the house” She gestured to her attire.
As Jordan explained the dilemma to Cierra, I pulled out my phone I started texting my best friend Lux. Lux and I had a rocky relationship in the beginning when we were just friends. I told him everything that was happening in school including meeting Jordan. He responded quickly even though there was a time difference. We talked for a minute while the two siblings talked. They started migrating out the classroom so I ended the conversation with Lux and followed Cierra and Jordan out the hallway.
Cierra turned back to me “ I like your hair, by the way." Cierra told me. “Same color as mine.”
“HOLD IT RIGHT THERE.” boomed a man's voice.
We all stopped and pivoted around to face the man. He was about six foot with a light brown trench coat, black pants with brown hair and a beard. And of course, an English accent.“Shit.” Cierra said under her breath.
“Dunstan” Jordan said under his.
“You two.” He pointed at both Cierra and Jordan with a furious look on his face. “Get to class”
“But Dunstan”, Jordan started to protest.
“GET TO CLASS” Dunstan yelled once more causing the siblings to run out the house. He turned to me “And you” he fumed, angrily pointing at me. “You're late. By three months.”
“Yes I know. See what happened was -” I started to explain what happened but I was cut off.“I don't care why. Just go get your stuff out of my office and unpack your belongings. Let Vivian help you” he ordered. “VIVIAN” he yelled out but no one came. “ Where is that blasted woman? No matter, I shall do it myself” He started walking up the stairs in front of us and I followed.
I didn't dare utter a word and already inferred that that was how he ruled the house. He led me to the office, opposite the double doors leading to the girls bedrooms.
“No one is allowed in my office, the cellar, or the attic. If you are caught doing so, there will be consequences that I deem appropriate for the crime.” he explained as he went into his office and he got me my luggage. “Curfew is at 10 o'clock sharp. Breakfast is served at 7 o'clock by Vivian, the house mother. Dinner is served at 8 o'clock at night also by Vivian.” he led me down the stairs toward the boys bedrooms. “Any violations of my rules or the school rules will result in consequences given by me or the headmaster, Mr Simmons.” he paused in front of Jordan's room. “ This is your room who you will be sharing with Mr. Frye who I see you have already become acquainted with. Behave yourself Lycaon Blackwater.” and with that he left me outside my new room.
I entered the room, this time with my things and I started to unpack.
“What are the odds” I said to myself.* WELL THAT WAS THAT CHAPTER! Please leave a like and a comment and maybe follow?? It helps me get motivated if people are actually liking what I'm posting.
