Warning: this chapter and probably the many chapters after are extremely gruesome to the reader.
After the screaming had ceased, my throat burned like a million tiny fires. Both from the screaming, and the injections. They had to inject me multiple times with the venomous poison they dare call a formula. I shut my eyes tightly. For some reason they burned shortly after the formula entered my bloodstream. I knew what would happen to me but what would change was unclear.
"Alright that'll be all today... Pandemonium." The head Nightwing said. His gaze stared down at me as if he was expecting me to spout a blaze of flame at him. If I was going to spout anything, it would be ice but unfortunately they gave me... You guessed it: more injections to keep that from happening.
The first guard that took me out of my cell escorted me back as well. I didn't know him though, he was new, like every guard they assigned to me. Not to the job of course, but to me. They were very clever, the Nightwings didn't let me get acquainted with anyone and the guards were not allowed to speak to me about anything else besides orders either.
Which meant I had a lot of time to myself. Most of the times after injections I would lay on the ground, either in pain, or in rage. Courtesy of the claw marks that littered the walls because of these "rage fits". In my defense why wouldn't a dragon go mad? Imagine being strapped to the ground once a month to be stabbed two to five times with a needle and then thrown back into a windowless room to deal with the side effects. I'm wondering what terrible things this one will do to me.
I was pushed forcefully into the old cell that this story began and the doors locked behind me, leaving blackness to swallow me hole...
                          ••••••••••••
"Mummy, why do I have to have this room?"
"Because, Sweetheart the old egg nest is too small for you. And besides, wouldn't you like a room of your own from now?"
"Not really... I want to sleep with you! I'm scared of the dark..."
                          ••••••••••••
Not anymore...
After my little flashback, which seemed to happen quite recently, perhaps another side effect of my injections, I felt the first jab. It was faint, but it was located just above my head, in between my horns. Then another pain, in my eyes. Faint, but enough to force my head backwards and make me wince with surprise.
It was a burning sensation, as if smoke had been blown into my eyes. I couldn't see, the fact that I was dark didn't help as well. I covered my head and made a small groan of pain. Slowly... Carefully... Sleep took me into its vice grip and darkness once again, welcomed me into its house with open arms...
                          ••••••••••••
I woke up feeling the same sensation. This would happen with all the injections, maddening. I had the patience to wait it out but my tolerance for it was fading. I needed a distraction from the feeling. I swung my head around blindly and got up, finding a spot where I usually sat.
I felt around for my treasure, my only treasure. It was a handle, a lantern handle to be exact. Pretty random, but if you had no entertainment in a windowless, metal room then yes, a lantern handle is basically the equivalent of a diamond to me.
I fiddled around with the handle for what seemed like hours, all at the same time closing my eyes because they burned. In fact, the burning actually had increased now... It was more defined than it was before, like a substance had just been splashed into your eyes and you were having an allergic reaction to it.
I didn't call the guards and ask for help, something similar happened when they injected me with Mudwing DNA in my bones. Turns out, it made me grow twice my size and my cell shrank because of it. A brown coloring had also appeared at the bottom of my chin, making a defined line of color between my top and bottom jaw. My facial structure also changed as a result and my build became heavy.
But this time, they gave me a Sandwings, and now the burning had started on the top of my skull as well, in the mane of icewing spikes around my head too! When will it stop?! It's maddening! I let out the first shriek, pained and earsplitting of a dragon that was only 6 moons old. My talons gripped my head and held so hard I felt specks of blood start to bloom from my scales. The burning only increased and I was forced to open my eyes to see what was going on.
I barley even needed to see, one of my icicle spikes had been cut clean off, as if my scales gruesomely rejected it. My talons were covered with warm blood, normally, a icewings blood would be blue, but the Mudwing and Sandwings injections must have turned it bright red. I reached back up to my head slowly and felt a liquid down my back, both blood and another substance that was almost like it was turning solid. I swung my head around and saw a puddle of blood, reflected off it by the light of the hole in the door I saw myself.
My reflection was that of a monster. My horns were being melted and reformed into something on top of my head, it grew taller and the color shifted and changed. One major part though... Were my eyes. The scleras, once colored white had turned completely black. My irises had vanished and there in the middle of them, were two white, slitted pupils.
I screamed and flew backwards from the monster in the reflection. That couldn't be me?! It wasn't me! How could it be me! I let out more screams of pain, fury, and shock. All mixed with fear for what these Nightwing's were going to do next. In my panic I felt something flat on the back of my head. I had knocked straight into my metal platform and with that, my head collided with the surface and as if it was my friend, the darkness welcomed me once more.
'It seems that darkness is the only one who cares for me today...'
