I twIddled my thumbs watching the leaves swirl beneath my feet. The brisk air was beating harshly against my cheeks making them redden. The air stuck my face like prickling icicles, crashing onto my lips and blowing so powerfully it was hard to open my eyes.
It had been 20 minutes after school let out and Mingyu wasnt here. Maybe he forgot.. maybe hes inviting his friends here to capture me...
The longer i sat in the cold waiting for my mystery man, the uneasier i became. I pulled my bag up higher onto my shoulder and tapped my foot against the icy pavement. The bench, although warming underneath my butt, began to get stiffer as the time passed.
Maybe i should go home. Maybe meeting with someone i had met for the first day wasnt that great if an idea. Fuck. The thoughts had just settled into my mind now but for all i knew, he could pop up any minute. This was a mistake. Definitely a mistake.
A tap landed on my shoulder.
Before I could swing around, Mingyu sat next to me with a smile plastered onto his face. In his hands were two small white pastry bags, both giving of a sweet and savory aroma. He ushered one towards me and i took it hesitantly. I peaked inside. There was a donut inside with a cluster of pink and orange prickles lining the top.
"Thank you." I slightly smiled at Mingyu as he happily muched on his donut. He gave me a wide grin and went back to his snack. We sat in silence as he finished the last bits of his food and crumpled the bag into a small ball that got stuffed in his pocket. I didnt want to appear as rude, but i knew better than to take food from strangers, despite the stranger eating theors tight beside me. And with that, i slipped the small bag into my satchel and clasped the lock down once more.
I turned towards Mingyu, as i was expecting a budding conversation to start, but instead he just stared into the trees with wide eyes. His orange hair was brushing against the bridge of his nose and a neighboring strand landed on the tip of his eyelashes.
It was hard not to look at how beautiful the scenery was as the leaves fell around us and the orange of his hair perfectly blended with the autumn trees. It was a calming sight. One that i had almost been unaware that i was caught in as his head lowered and his eyes flashed onto mine. I clamped my mouth shut and twisted back forwards.
"So.." I started, my voice trailing off with the wind "whats up?"
"The sky." Mingyu giggled softly and i almost had to check my ears to confirm that this laugh csme from a giant teenage boy rather than a toddler.
"Haha." I smiled slightly and twisted towards him, my eyes not exactly reaching his face, but the powdery fuchsia of his winter coat. I didnt even know there were coats that came in such a loud color. "No, I mean, today. You were so forward on becoming my friend."
"And..?"
"Why? I didnt say a word to you. I ran off the second you attempted to speak to me and yet you still tried."
His jaw tensed and he kicked at the soggy dirt beneath his feet. "I dunno.."
"Of course you know."
"Fine. I know, but i cant tell you. Not yet."
If he thought for one second that i'd play into his ...
I coughed and stood up, flicking my hood onto my head and letting it touch the tips of my ears. "Well, it was nice meeting you."
I started heading towards the bus station. I heard footsteps run up to me in a frantic but i couldnt care less. I had no time for him.
"What do you mean 'it was nice meeting you?'" He kept an eben pace with me as i walked briskly to the bus stop.
"I mean exactly what i saif. If i had known that there would be a lack of comprehension, i never wouldve said it."
He huffed and from the corner of my eye i could see the misty cloud puff from his lips. "But i wasnt done talking!"
I brought my hood towards my eyes more and tucked my hands inro my pockets. "Well I am. If you cant answer such a simple question, we're done here."
"I just- i didnt want you to think of me any differently."
I dound that hard to believe. This was our first encounter, our first meeting. The lasting impression hes making on me is still pending and it wont stop anytime soon.
"We just met, Mingyu. I dont have any thoughts of you at the moment."
That may have been a bit harsh, but i meant exactly what i said and there was no point in sugarcoating it.
