"Were you, Bex, and Liz okay at school?" she turned her attention back on me.

"Liz went home to visit her parents and Bex's parents let her partake in a mission for MI6 two days after you guys left."

It was as if a stale air had robbed oxygen out of the car. Macey let her hard glare land on Bex, who remained perfectly calm, and Liz, who pretended to read a textbook in the seat next to her.

"I thought we agreed-" Macey started, but Bex cut her off and said, "She was safe. She had a protection detail perimeter around the campus and Aunt Abby and Townsend were with her at all times. Cammie was safe."

"Cammie isn't safe anywhere! Cammie isn't safe unless the three of us are with her as back up. We agreed you wouldn't let her out of your sight!"

At those words, I felt my head falter a step between registering things. They made an arrangement not to ever let me be alone again.

"What?" I asked. I was met with silence. "I clearly remember us agreeing that it was not your job to protect me... You can't keep erasing your normal life with your parents, Liz. You don't see them ever! Bex... You know I can take care of myself. Your parents miss you too."

They say nothing. Zach reaches behind him and takes a hold of my coarse hand. Squeezing tightly, he says, "They didn't mean to make you worried."

"And you? Were you planning on throwing yourself on another bomb for me if the situation occured? This is not something you are supposed to handle. That is why Aunt Abby, Mr. Solomon, Agent Townsend, and my mom are here."

"Gallagher Girl, when we aren't in control of a situation, we're willing to do anything to change that. Don't you get that?"

I didn't answer. We spent the next two minutes in complete silence until Zach pulled the car over. He and Macey got out of the car as if by instinct, and he said, "Stay here. We're going to get a suite.

"Why does Macey have to-"

She cut me off, "Were you planning on paying?" and shut the side door. "Cam." Bex said evenly. "Cam, are-"

"I'm fine." I said, for the 2,683 time that year (I know, I'm counting).
