-Cammie-

“That’s not your job.” I stood behind Zach and Macey, fully aware of the conversation they just had. Liz and Bex wouldn’t stop looking around. After all, it wasn’t easy to convince your best friends to let you step out of a car and walk ten feet into a hotel.

“I told you to stay in the car,” Zach’s low voice almost scared me. I’d rather him be yelling at me, than having a silent war between us. Zach eyed Bex, and she threw her arms up, “I felt bad! Bloody hell, this one’s good at making you feel guilty.”

I walked forward a few steps next to Zach, then offered a hand to Kat, “Hi. I’m Cammie.”

“Kat,” she responded lightly. I happened to find the boy next to her cunning. He reminded me of a weird mixture between sweet and ignorant Josh, and, well, Zach. I think that’s why I wavered trying to say something to him. “Hale,” he just kept his eyes locked on mine, as if he felt something spark too.

“Fine.” Hale said, turning his attention back to Macey.

“Fine what?”

“We can all just share the suite. It holds twelve people anyway.” At that, the five of us turned and looked at each other, slightly panicked. Liz the most. She looked like she could faint if someone told her there was another extra credit essay for Mr. Mosckowitz.

Macey spoke up first, “I trust them.”

Bex scoffed, “Well congratulations on that, we don’t know them.”

“Theres an eleven percent chance they run away after we tell them everything,” Liz managed. I just stood there, looking up at Zach, who clearly wanted to say no. He didn’t want to risk information on the Circle. Let alone be in the same ten feet of someone he didn’t know. But he saw my pleading eyes and didn’t turn away when he said, “It’s your call, Gallagher Girl.”

“Excuse me, could you please put the bill under McHenry? Thank you. We’ll be sharing the room,” I told the lady over the counter.

“Weapons on the table, everyone.” Liz’s voice wafted through the gorgeous light-filled room. We all made our way over, and one by one, watched each other remove our posessions. The only thing Hale removed was an antique swiss army knife. Kat didn’t set anything down. Next, I saw Macey open up her coat to reveal a gun, a grenade, a small rapel cord, napotine patches, and a small knife. Hale already looked scared.

“Macey, you could have mentioned you were a trained assassin earlier.”

“You wouldn’t have believed me, pretty boy.”

Zach tensed at the word ‘assassin’. We go to a school for spies. We learn how to save lives. Zach’s old school was taught how to take them.

I stepped forward and lay two guns on the table, a few napotine patches, lipstick (But not of the makeup variety), and one dark purple pill.

“What’s this?” Zach said in a soft voice, picking up the medicine.

“It’s just in case,” I said back, keeping my eyes on the ground.

Bex immediately jumped in, “I swear to God we didn’t give her this.”

“No, Aunt Abby did.” I calmly tried to answer. Zach’s fist looked like it was about to pound something to keep it from shaking. Instead of losing it, he uttered, “We’ll talk about this later.”

From the corner of my eye I caught Hale smiling, and he questioned, “Are you two brother and sister?”

Macey smiled coyly and responded, “Not unless siblings shove their tongues down each other’s throats.”
