Five days. They had been gone for five days. There was no sign of Herobrine, but also no sign of the others. The sixteen kids were surviving in the forest thanks to Mia's magic and Reed's ability to make shelters. They were staying in a sort of log fort. It had a barrier of magic around it to keep rain and wind from getting in.
Everyone was getting restless. Ellie, even though she's the youngest, she was usually the most level-headed. She had two breakdowns while they've been out here. They had decided to pack up their stuff and try to find a village.
"We can look from the treetops," Brekker suggested. Mia nodded.
"That'll help a lot. Please." TJ said. She was probably the most restless out of all of them. She was now more easily angered than Mia had ever seen her be before. "I'm hoping we can find a village and stay in a hotel or something. I'm getting tired of sleeping on the ground." She continued.
They were all tired and hungry. Food rations were running low and no one could get a good sleep. Ellie was often asleep while they were travelling. Usually it was Brandon or Ginny who would carry her.
Everyone could see the relationship sparking between Reed and Jaxon. Whether platonic or romantic, they couldn't tell. However they did notice how Jaxon would run his hands and ruffle Reed's growing hair, and how they always seemed to be together.
Mia was fighting to keep a strong face. Her anxiety was at a high point about their safety and her father. They hadn't heard anything from Herobrine since they had escaped. Everyone was hoping to hear from him soon.
"Hey, Mia?" Venus spoke up. Mia turned to the girl to see that she was also giving Hana a piggyback ride.
"Yeah?"
"We need to take a break. It's hot as the Nether out here and everyone's tired." Mia didn't want to do it but was thinking about the well being of the group.
"Fine, we'll stop for a little bit." Her eyes scanned the area in front of them. "There's a clearing up there and I think I can see water."
The group collectively groaned but trudged along behind her. They reached the clearing in around five minutes and everyone was glad to take a break.
"I don't understand you, Ellie," Nova said. Ellie looked up, cocking her head.
"What do you mean?"
"You're wearing long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and you have your cape on with the hood up. Aren't you hot?"
"No, not at all." Everyone looked at her in shock. Almost all of them were wearing shorts and summer clothes and were still practically dying from the heat and constant walking.
"What are you made of? Ice?" Hana asked, walking forward. She put her hand on Ellie's shoulder but drew her hand back. "Your skin is really hot and clammy," she said. She pulled down Ellie's hood.
Ellie's face was a pasty white colour, but her cheeks were flushed. Hana placed her hand onto the younger girl's forehead.
"You're burning up. From what I can tell, you have a bad fever. That would explain why you're so cold. But with this heat, those clothes aren't going to help." She slipped her backpack from off her shoulder and rummaged around in it, finally pulling out a loose muscle shirt and some shorts. She handed them to Ellie. "Go find somewhere to change."
Ellie stood up and staggered away to a cluster of trees. Meanwhile, Hana had tossed a cloth to Little Frog. He wet it with the cold water from the small pond and wrung it put, waiting for Ellie to come back.
She came back quickly and slumped down again, leaning her back against a tree. Hana tied up Ellie's hair for her, getting it off her shoulders. Little Frog then placed the wet cloth on her forehead. Ellie's eyes closed and she sighed. She was quiet for a while and soon she had laid down completely on her back and had fallen asleep.
