Nick opened his eyes and found himself in his room. Everything was shrouded in a veil of darkness except for his barely open closet door that emitted a bright light from its entrance. Confused, he took stock of his situation. He still had his phones, knife, and wallet on him but he'd left everything else in the car. In Enrique's mom's car. He checked his phone only to find that only a minute had passed. He got up quickly and walked around the entire apartment to find it empty. Only after coming back to his room did he bother to notice his glowing closet. Bewildered by the fact that he'd somehow popped into his room and even more scared that Enrique had to face that cop alone, Nick was left unsure on what to do next. His closet seemed to call to him somehow and he wasn't sure why. He took a breathe to calm to himself then stepped inside.
The light blinded him at first and it took a few minutes before his adjusted. When he could finally see clearly, he looked down at his right hand and saw a symbol on it: the outline of an upside down heart. Checking his surroundings, he found himself in the same endless white room from his dream. But instead of walking aimlessly through the corridor he broke into a dead sprint towards the oversized lazy boy. The only thought that raced in his mind was how he could save Enrique and make it up to him for vanishing. He still couldn't quite comprehend what was happening but none of that mattered at the moment. The only thing that did matter was finding answers. He ignored the trippy static of the psychedelic television and instead turned to the mysterious girl that sat engulfed by the massive chair.
"Ok so can you please tell me what's been going on?" asked Nick.
"Showing you would be a lot easier," said the girl. She raised her hand to reveal a simple TV remote. She clicked through some channels before gesturing for Nick to turn to the screen.
The TV screen was split in half; the left side was white like the room while the right side was pitch black. Something sparked between the divide causing a massive explosion that consumed everything in sight. The girl clicked the remote again which made things fast forward. As the explosion began to take the shape of something she began to speak.
"Before the universe and everything in it came to be there were only two forces: fate and destiny. But because they were the end of everything they soon got bored of existing in a reality of constant nothingness and predictable expectancy. And so they began to bicker and fight until their respective realities collided like you saw. This began the universe as you know it but there are infinite universes. Anyway, after life started to form we began to mess with it by giving them powers and placing bets on who'd end up killing who or if the power would end up consuming them. These have been the gods you mortals have been worshipping for centuries. And indeed if you master your power you will achieve a state of divinity. The catch is if you don't, the power will consume your humanity which will drive you insane. Entire planets have been destroyed over a being's inability to control themselves." said the girl before yawning.
"Any questions?" she asked.
"Which one are you?" asked Nick trying to process this new information.
"Destiny," answered Destiny,"I'm the nicer one but neither of us are what you call 'good',"
"Why do I feel like you're not telling something important?" asked Nick.
Destiny looked down on him from her chair and grinned a very sinister grin. The air of an innocent child were stripped back revealing a very ancient entity that had seen the rise and fall empires, planets, maybe even entire realities. It sent a shiver down Nick's spine making him feel physically cold.
"No one likes competition," she said, "Other wielders of power often take out any new comers so that no one rises to oppose them. Some form religions in order to cease squabbles while others constantly wage war against each other. Don't worry though I sent you a babysitter so you'll probably be ok."
