Chapter 3

Amelia stood in the line, waiting to be sorted, with many other new students. She bit her lip nervously and played with her hair as she looked around her. She had to admit, the place itself was intimidating. The grand walls and ceiling seemed to cave in on her. Just the being in this place gave her a suffocating feeling. Maybe it was the fact she had never been anywhere except inside the orphanage. She thought to herself when she felt someone tap her shoulder.

Amelia turned around to face a girl, probably the same age, staring at her. She had pale skin, cascading blonde curls and dazzling crystal eyes. This girl seemed to light up the room. Just the way she would smile. Amelia tilted her head to the side, as the girl put a warm smile on. She had never been warmly smiled to before.

"Hello," The girl spoke warmly. "What year are you in?"

Amelia blinked. "I'm in my sixth year." She said nervously. "Yourself?"

"I'm in my sixth also." The girl held out her hand towards Amelia, putting on a simple smile. "I'm Rochelle."

Amelia shook her hand, putting on a wavering smile herself. "I'm Amelia."

"Amelia Maple." The old women professor called.

Amelia sucked in a breath, as she made her way to the front. A stool sat there, as well as a wrinkly old hat. Amelia swallowed nervously, as she turned around to face the students. She didn't like being watched by people. Especially big crowds. She was one of those shy girls. Amelia sat, as the hat was placed on her. She gasped when it began to talk to her.

Not a few moments later, the hat yelled, "Ravenclaw!"

Breathing out, Amelia stood as the hat was taken off of her. Slowly, but cautiously, she walked towards the Ravenclaw table. She got a few claps on the back and smiles. Some she got scowls and disapproving nods. Of course, Amelia wondered why. Was she not good enough to be put in Ravenclaw because she was new?

Amelia placed herself at a spot at the end of the table. Away from everyone's stares and whispers. She closed her eyes, inhaling and exhaling. She could do this. She could get through this. Suddenly the Ravenclaw table again cheered, as Rochelle made her way towards Amelia. Taking a seat across from Amelia, Rochelle gave her a dazzling smile. She smiled back and gave her attention towards the head of the hall as Dumbledore stood to make his speech.

"Welcome young students back to Hogwarts." He smiled, beaming at everyone.

And from there his speech went on. Amelia couldn't help but smile at how he seemed to captivate most of the students attention. She wondered if she could ever do that herself. Capture the attention of many people, without being shy.

"So Amelia, where do you come from?" Rochelle asked her.

Amelia snapped out of her daze and faced her, grabbing food as the feast appeared. "I was born and raised in London itself." She smiled. "What about you?"

Rochelle took a bite of her apple. "I was born in Wolverhampton and raised in Doncaster."

"Wow. I've never been to either of those places," Amelia said. "But I'd love to visit, definitely."

"Oh you must, beautiful places they are." Rochelle smiled her dazzling smile, again.

Amelia cleared her throat, not knowing what to say. "Pardon, but what is your last name?"

"Kingstee. Rochelle Kingstee." She smiled.

Somehow, something about her last name clicked in Amelia's mind. It sounded familiar. It was like a distant memory being brought back to life. Oh but shaking the thought out, Amelia answered Rochelle.
