Y/N lay on the sofa with her head in my lap, swaddled in blankets. She was watching some film on the TV, but I wasn’t really paying attention to it. I absentmindedly stroked her long, dark hair while I thought about how lucky I was to have her in my life. We’d been dating for 2 years and she had moved in with me about 4 months ago. She left her shit everywhere - there was now make up and other feminine products strewn all over the bathroom - but I didn’t mind. We see more of each other this way, and if extra mess around the house was the price I had to pay - well, I was willing to put up with that. She laughed at something happening on the film which snapped me back to reality. I looked down at her and smiled at the happiness on her face. Her laugh was sweet and contagious. She noticed me looking at her and sat up so she could face me.
“What are you grinning at Barakat?” she asked, nudging me with her elbow. Her voice was soft, soothing. I closed my eyes and took it in for a second. She laughed again then.
“What are you doing, you fucking weirdo?” she giggled softly.
“You’re beautiful,” I said, putting my arm around her shoulders and pulling her to me. She blushed, turning her cheeks and the tip of her nose pink.
“What was that for?” she asked looking up at me.
“No reason. I just like your face.” I leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. I felt her smile into it.
She shifted so she was straddling my lap and could properly talk to me.
“When you blush, the way you try to fight that little smile when you’re embarrassed. I like that too.” I said, placing my hands on her lower back.
“I didn’t even know I did that.” She cocked her head to the side, looking puzzled.
“What?” I asked quietly.
“I’m just wondering why you’re saying all these things.” she said looking down at her lap.
“Am I not allowed to pay my girlfriend compliments without needing a reason?” I joked.
“It’s just, you don’t normally do this.” she met my eyes.
“Normally I’m not aware of just how much I love you,” I kissed her again. “I like the way you bite your lip when you concentrate.”
“Okay, I knew I did that,” she laughed.
“I like watching you draw. You can turn these blank pieces of paper into something beautiful with just your hands.”
“I like the way you pull me close to you when we’re in bed.” she told me, breaking her silence. “I like the way you can make me happy even on my worst day.”
“When I’m on tour and I’m missing you like crazy, just seeing a text from you can brighten my whole day. I’m completely in love with you, Y/N. I know I don’t always say it enough, but I do. I love you so much it hurts, and just the thought of you ever leaving me is enough to give me heart palpitations.”
She smiled then, a devious look in her eyes.
“I know what else can give you heart palpitations,” she winked, running her hands over my chest. I liked where this was going, I’d have to compliment her more often.
