I rummaged through my closet searching for something to wear to tonight’s party. It was a label party and there were a lot of people there I would need to impress if I wanted my band to get a second record deal. We released our first album just over a year ago, and the band has been going for 3 years. Because I’m a girl we tend to not get as much respect as other all male bands in the rock scene, so we have to try extra hard. I decided to wear black skinny jeans and a black sheer blouse with a vest underneath. I tied my long blonde hair up in a ponytail and applied my make up. Just as I finished I heard a car horn outside. I looked out the window and saw my band waiting for me in the car - Jake, the bass player, Andy, the drummer, and Nick and Russell, the guitarists. I grabbed my bag and ran down to the car, jumping in the back seat next to Jake and Nick.
“Remember, we have to make a really good impression, okay?” I said as we got out of the car.
“We know Y/N, relax,” Andy sounded slightly exasperated.
“Seriously guys, this is a big deal. We have to try harder then all the other bands because we’re not all male.”
“We know,” Andy said again.
“That means no getting super drunk!” I ringed the doorbell.
Our manager opened the door and ushered us in.
“About time you got here. I got a table over there for you.” he said
I looked to where he was pointing.
“I reserved it for you in advance. You’re sharing with We Are The In Crowd. I thought you’d like to sit with another girl Y/N.” he patted me on the shoulder.
“Yeah, thanks, but it really wouldn’t have bothered me if I was the only one.”
“Go and sit down, Y/N,” he sighed.
I followed my band to the table on the other side of the large room and slid in next to Tay Jardine, the boys on my other side. She was just as beautiful as I remembered her. Brown hair curling around her face, she was the most beautiful girl in the room. She wore leather trousers which clung to her legs like a second skin and black pumps, a black vest and a cream leather jacket.
“Hey Y/N, I haven’t seen you in such a long time!” She said hugging me.
We knew each other from when we both played Warped Tour just over a year ago and we became friends, but we hadn’t seen each other since then.
“Hey guys, long time no see,” Rob Chianelli said, high-fiving each of us. We all talked for a while and told each other about what we’d been up to in the past year or so.
“Congrats on Weird Kids, it’s fucking amazing!” I said to Tay as the guys from both bands joked around with each other.
“Thanks, we worked really hard on it, I’m so proud of it.” she smiled warmly at me.
That look sent butterflies through my stomach. I felt heat rising to my cheeks and quickly rested my face in my hands to hide it.
“You should be, it’s the best album I’ve heard all year.”
“Thanks,” she put a hand on my shoulder. “So, I hear you’re trying to put out a new record later this year?”
I looked at her hand on my shoulder and she moved it, lightly stroking down my back as she brought it back to the table in front of her.
“Um, yeah, we… we’d really like to, we just need to get a deal first. People don‘t really take us seriously because we‘re female fronted.” I said shakily. My breath had left me when she touched me. A girl hadn’t done that in 2 years, when I had my last girlfriend.
“Well, I’m sure you’ll be able to get one soon. Beautiful girl like you, you’ll have no trouble getting a deal.”
“I hope not.” I said. I realised I was staring at her breasts and quickly averted my eyes back up to her face.
She rubbed her leg against mine under the table and winked at me, taking a sip out of her drink.
“I’m just gonna go get some air,” I stood abruptly and walked out of the building. I sat on the pavement outside in the dark and tried to cool off. I liked her, I really did. But straight girls often flirted with me because I was openly gay, so I was always wary. And as far as I knew, Tay was straight.
I heard the door open behind me and then Tay sat on the floor next to me.
“Hey,” she nudged my knee with hers. “Are you okay. I’m sorry if I upset you, if I came on too strong or whatever.”
“It’s not that, I just don’t understand why you’re doing it. You’re straight.”
She laughed then. “Y/N, I’m many things, but straight is not one of them,” she giggled again.
“Really?” I was surprised.
“I mean, I’m not gay, but I’m not straight either. I just like who I like. And I like you.”
She leaned forward slowly, face hovering a few inches in front of mine. I leaned in the rest of the way and our lips connected. She was so soft, tentatively running her tongue across along my bottom lip. My lips parted allowing her entrance and my arms laced around her neck. I pulled away and she smiled at me.
“I’ve wanted to do that all night.” she said quietly.
“Me too.” I leaned back in and kissed her again.
Someone coughed behind us and we both separated and stood up, away from each other like two guilty little girls. Nick was stood there with a cigarette in his hand, leaning against the wall.
“Nick, how long have you been there?” I asked blushing again.
“Since the first time you kissed. Nice, by the way.”
“Oh you ass!” I laughed.
“Come on, we should go back inside.” Tay took my hand in hers and we went back in together.
