For the next couple of weeks Cindy taught me everything that grandma hadn't. She taught me to read and write and I found my new hobby was reading.

I would read till dad would come in and turn off the light. I would reluctantly place my book on the side table. It wasn't till a week before I started school that I decided to use my flame as a light. It was then that I worked out that I hadn't used my flame since they took grandma away.

So that night when dad came into turn my light off, I did it with alto more ease than normal. I could see that dad was suspicious, but he just rolled with it. He did his usual routine. Tuck me in, tell me that I was his little flame princess, kiss me goodnight and closed the door.

I listed for him to walk down the stairs. I jumped out of bed and peeked through the door just to make sure that he was gone. All was clear. I climbed into bed, graded my book, put it on my lap and cupped my hands. It took a couple of minutes of concentration, because I hadn't done it for a month or so.

I eventually got my flame to appear. I held it in my left hand and sat on my bed with the book open and reading. After a couple of pages my flame started to spin into a ball of fire it started to rise from my hands to just above my head. It threw its dim light to each corner of the room. I got excited and fell back and read my book.

As I got more immersed in the book, My flame slowly died down and then disappear. I was confused but I cupped my hands and started to concentrate. My flame came back faster this time and as I concentrated it spun it's self into my mini sun and rose. I continued reading till my flame went out again.

I was getting frustrated but I kept trying. I was creating my little sun so much faster by the time I gave up. No matter how fast I could make my mini sun, It only stayed up for a few pages before I had to stop and create it again.

I didn't know it at the time, but mum and dad were peeping through my door and watching my frustration. I fell asleep and dreamed of my little sun and how it kept going out.

I woke and wandered down to breakfast. Mum and dad were already there but Cindy was still in bed. Mum and dad laughed as I came down the stairs. "tough night was it?"dad questioned. I looked at him and slowly said "no". Cautious about what I said because mum and dad would kill me if they knew I had been up after bed time.

"We admire your persistence but after be time isn't the time to practice with your fire" Mum explained smiling. She wasn't mad? I apologized and got ready to go shopping for my school supplies.

Cindy showed me all the latest gear and by the end of the shopping trip I had the most hip pencil case and pens.
