I'd Lie
Chapter 2
Bella's POV
As I approached my truck, I immediately had the urge to text him. Unfortunately, I didn't know why, but I thought that I could ride with him later going to his apartment. Not that I wanted to spend more time with him alone in his car... just to save gas, maybe. Ugh! Bella, Stop that!
Sighing, I just messaged him a short one and hailed a cab going to the office. Few blocks away from the office, he sent a message of agreement. I ran a hand through my curls and found myself feeling uneasy. God, Bella, what has gotten in you?!
I paid the driver and went directly to the elevator. I breathed in before I opened the door, and I spotted Edward rubbing his forehead while looking intently on his paper works. I made my way on my table and jumped a little when he greeted me.
"Good morning, Isabella." He smirked at me, and my feet were getting jelly.
I quickly got hold of my table, and my brows furrowed. "It's Bella," I hissed.
"It's still your name, isn't it?"
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever!" I muttered.
As I turned my back, I heard him chuckle which made me clench my jaw. Alice waved at me and gave me some paper works to do. As much as I hate to just type and type, it surely made my mind relax a little. After so much rereading and making sure I didn't miss typed anything, I got up from my desk and decided to talk to my dearest boss, Mr. Denali. I just wanted to ask him about something. I knocked on the door, and he hollered for me to come in. Taking deep breaths, I pushed the door open and greeted him.
I took a sit beside his desk. "Sir, why do I have to work with Edward?" I blurted out. Wow, Bella, that's really a great start!
"Uh, is there any problem with that?" He eyed me suspiciously.
Actually there's so many problem. "Uhm... nothing," I mumbled.
"Well, good. Any more questions?"
I shook my head and went to the cafeteria. I was busy talking to my mind when I suddenly bumped into something... hard? I looked up and saw Edward smirking, much to my embarrassment.
"I... ugh..." I gulped, "s-so-sorry." I blushed deep crimson and walked away.
I went to the bathroom and spank may head many times. That was odd! Ugh! Did I just stutter in front of that jerk?! I buried my head in my hands, and someone gave me a friendly tap on my shoulder.
"Bella, what's wrong?" Alice asked.
Everything's wrong. "Nothing," I lied, and she gave me a sympathetic smile.
"I better go now, Alice." I smiled, and she nodded.
I grabbed a sandwich, much to my lost appetite because of the incident awhile ago. Moments later I left the cafeteria and started doing the stacks of work that was waiting for me. I had worked almost all the remaining hours of my afternoon, and when I glanced at my watch, it was already quarter to four. I gathered all the courage to ask him what time we were going, though I have so much problem with my lack of confidence. I approached his table, and he stared at me nonchalantly.
"Time ticks very fast. What time are we going?" I crossed my arms and waited for his answer. I heard the creak of a chair, and he leaned into me, his breath tickling all my nerves.
"Very excited, huh?" he teased, and I tensed. Bella, deep breath.
"Don't be too confident of yourself, Cullen," I snapped, and he chuckled.
He got his own things, and we headed to his silver Volvo. I walked ahead of him just to make sure that he'd not get too gentlemanly and open the passenger's door for me.
"Why are you so tense?"
I bit my lip and thought of something. "No, I'm not. I am very excited, you know!" I made sure that the sarcastic tone was obvious.
"Okay then, just don't be too excited, Swan." He just snatched my own words. Ugh!
"Jerk," I mumbled, and he chuckled again.
For sure this man beside me did not change over time. He did grow mature, but he was still the Edward I once knew. He was my former classmate back in high school. He was the popular one, and I was the simple one. The worst part was that, I needed to endure his craziness because he's my biology partner! He pulled pranks and even made me fall for him. Imagine that! He's too confident that he could make every girl fall head over heels in love with him. I was pretty sure that I wasn't one of the flirty girls. Well, I really couldn't deny the fact that I had a crush on him. But I swore until I die that my feelings had flown away like wind. I don't like Edward Cullen. Never will!
"Playboy," I suddenly blurted out. God, kill me now! I mentally slapped myself.
"What was that?" I heard him ask. Bella, let your mind work! Make something believable!
"Uhm... haha! Nothing... you know... uh... I can't believe my friend's... still a... playboy!" I stuttered, looking for words, and surely I looked as red as an apple.
"That was weird," he mumbled. I bit my lip and closed my eyes.
"Who's that friend?" he asked.
"Uhm... my high school friend." I bit my lip again.
"Oh, do I know him?"
"Uh, you better turn your attention to the road. For safety," I said and hoped that he'd drop the subject, but I knew him too well.
"You're avoiding the question."
"Just drive," I hissed.
As soon as he parked near his apartment, I got out of his Volvo which made my head spinning. His scent was overwhelming. I expected bundles of mess everywhere but found myself almost gaping at the sight of cleanliness. I chewed on my bottom lip and waited for him to say something.
"Please take a sit, and make yourself comfortable. I'll go get my laptop," he said, and I nodded. There were various pictures and paintings hanging on the wall, a sofa in plain white sheets, and a piano at the corner. That was surprising though. You're being judgmental again, Bella.
He returned after a few minutes with a laptop and folder in his hands. "Let's get this done," I said.
~oOo~
Moments later my head was like wild fire, and my eyes were drooping. "Do you want coffee?" he asked, and I nodded.
A mug of coffee was placed on the table, and I took a sip while he went to his room for a while. I found the pictures hanging very familiar. That's Carlisle and Esme Cullen, his parents. I wasn't aware that I fell asleep until I heard Edward panicking which made me panic, too. He was mumbling incoherent words which vaguely made sense. He kept on pacing back and forth which was very annoying.
"Bella, I need you to be my wife!"
I accidentally spat the hot liquid that was still on my mouth and stared at him incredulously. "WHAT?!" I shrieked.
